So, my original set of keys is starting to wear out. I would love to find a set of American Motors blanks. I bought a set on ebay and it ended up being for an earlier Grand Wagoneer. The only blanks I can find have the Chrysler Pentastar and Jeep on them.

fleabay has them sometimes but you have to be careful they are not all the same, there is a letter code on them ( like J ) so your originals have to match.....ask me how I knowAbort? Retry? Ignore? >

Tripwire, sounds like you found out the same way I just did. The door keys work well...ignition key not so much. And, for the late model GW, the code is J.
Joe, it is funny. The keys I received when I bought the rig (I was told they were the "original keys". One set is stamped American Motors and the other is stamped with the Pentastar and Jeep.'83 Scrambler (CJ-8) / 258 / T-5 / D-300 / DANA 30-AMC20 (3.31)

Mine was so worn, it finally wouldn't work in the ignition. I've got AAA. They came out, pulled the steering wheel and ignition, rekeyed it.
I also pulled one door cylinder, took it to locksmith, got new master to match.
I've gone to local Ace to have copies of both made, no issues.'Robert E Lee'
