    Interior Lighting Wiring Issues.

So I was attempting to hook up the interior dome lights in the "Wagolanche" today. I got the front and rear one to work from the previous dome light wiring (Note: the rear one is a J-truck cab dome light, not mounted on the roof). Both front and rear would turn on when the doors opened and if I turn the dimmer switch up.

Now, I wanted to get the Exterior Cargo light to work (Note: Light located on the exterior back of a J-truck cab). Normally there is a switch inside for that light, I had only half the switch --the part with the wires. This light is grounded to the body, behind the light housing. I hooked the two wires on the "switch" together, nothing. I then re-grounded the light to the ground on the interior lights. Now, all lights (the interior dome and the exterior cargo) are on ALL of the time. Doors open, doors shut, they are all on. Dimmer switch is down.

My plan was to have ALL the lights come on when the doors are open.

I am not good with electrical crap so any advice would be helpful. I don't remember if I hooked the 2 wires on the switch together by themselves, or if they are together and connected to the main wire for the entire interior lighting system. My thinking is that since those 2 wires were once a switch, I take only one of two and wire it into the "main power"?

I'm sure there is an easy solution, but again wiring is NOT my thing.

Okay, so I cut the wires at all of the light sockets to start fresh. There is a brown and black wire that goes to the rear, and a single brown. The other black wire goes down to the door switch I assume.

Now, the interior rear light has a brown and black wire on it. The exterior cargo light has a brown and black wire on it. The wires feeding the back are brown and black, and brown.

How should I hook up the interior and exterior rear lights with these 3 wires running to the back?

I guess I didn't think about it, but now when I hit my dimmer switch to turn on the interior lights, the exterior one will now turn on (probably not legal if I'm riding down the road).
