    Hood Ornament

As I get my truck ready for paint, I'm going to take a stab at re-doing the hood ornament.

The chrome has badly flaked, causing the aluminum to oxidize. That's relatively easy to fix.

Does anyone have any idea where to get a replacement insert? As I tried to remove one of the inserts, it became apparent what 33 years has done to the acrylic and it shattered into a million pieces.

I'm not beyond epoxying a picture in there, just curious.

I'll be uploading a full video of this process, but would like some advice on the decal/insert.

Needs interior work. Smells like a refinery on the outside. Relatively rust free.

seems like I saw that someone had those inserts for sale

I will do some looking and let you know.

on mine, even though my wagoner is a 1988

made during the Chrysler years I guess

I covered my insert with a custom made AMC Logo

because I like the AMC logo best.

I decided to refinish my ornament and re-make the insert.

Video of refinishing the ornament below, soon to be followed by the vid of re-making the insert.

Restoring a hood ornament. My Wagoneer one was very crusty. New ones are at least $250. I had another partial one that I robbed for the inlay. Used Sp...

            That is impressive, nice save!

My hood ornament just discombobulated itself while driving a couple weeks ago. Fortunately, I saved the emblem before it fell off the hood.

That hood ornament looks really good. I'm surprised how well the paint turned out. I've been thinking about mounting a hood ornament on my truck only using a Lesney (Matchbox) Gladiator on top.

Thanks. I'm sure it'll lose a bit of shine after clear, but you get what you get.

I'll post pictures of the re-made Jeep insert. I used one of the originals to make a mold, then cast some clear resin. Hopefully it'll turn out ok.
