Daughter has the Jeep Disease *Update 10/28/07*

My 16 year old daughter bought her first Jeep yesterday. She bought a 79 J10/J20 cross. Got it home yesterday, and the work started today. She has replaced the instrument panel, and now is stripping interior parts from the 79 Waggy we are parting out. She has changed the door and window handles, and the glove box door. She has a whole list of "to do" things.

    She is gonna be busy.
She was allowed to purchase it with 2 stipualtions
    1. She pays for it all
    2. She helps to work on it and learn to work on it.

That is very cool. I hope my kids are interested in something like that when they start looking at cars.

Looks like she's off to a good start. That's the way to do it, they'll appreciate it more when they've invested some sweat equity.

Nice, she is on the right track. More time keeping it running = less time looking at boys. I like your plan.

Good for you Pam. Good to let a 16'r run with the right attitude (hers and yours). Beware though enthusiasm can go south quick when hard parts like shop time/trans/eng/carb/tcase/drive shafts, steering, suspension/brakes/tires etc etc need attention and way more money and time than door handles, glove box stuff...
The novelty can wear off quick on a 16's' wages so keep an iron fist on the VISA.

On the other hand ya don't want her running off with some 18 year old geek on the back a Vespa either...what to do what to do eh.

I think your/her Plan A is a great start though.

Needs new front rotors which came with the purchase, but she will need new brake pads. She is already looking at new tires, and she is not happy with the prices at all. It runs really good, and we have plenty of spare parts from the 79 Waggy we are parting out. Tranny and transfer case. The body needs some serious attention. You can drop a large pumpkin through the floor boards and not touch the sides of the hole. That is the next major project for her. Her dad has been working with her on welding so I think with a little more practice he may have her attempt to weld them in. She has been on the internet for hours researching and pricing parts.

She is planning on doing the body in Durbac, but she needs new rockers and sides for the box, but that is the least of her worries right now.

She wanted to have all the work done before school starts in two weeks. Silly Girl!!!!

Be careful. The next thing you know she will be running around with boys who have Jeeps, and we all know what they're like. They only have one thing on their minds, and its not girls!
