AMC 428 Stroker

Not exactly a full size Jeep engine I guess but it sure sounds cool.
Click on it to hear it idle.

We didn't get to dyno it due to the country shutting down.
We built another engine with the same specs as this one with a slightly smaller cam and it dyno'd at 643HP and 592#/ft of torque.

Yea and it only took 64 years to get to this point.. LOL!
I worked on this cool sh..t today. Replacing the rear end with the correct AMC20. Yea it is the real McCoy, one of two cars that set a whole bunch of records in 1968.

I think that they were for wheelie bars. After it set 24 hr speed records, it was modified to do a land speed record, then it was modified for drag racing. I am trying to get it back to the original version somewhat.

Im guessing that all the extra displacement is via Stroke? The 401 bore puts it close to the limit already...

Yep, the bore was 4.208" and the stroke is 3.85". We have the crank off-set ground to 2" journals. We used Compstar 6" rods and Race-Tech pistons made to my specification to get the compression ratio around 13:1 to take advantage of E85 fuel.

It doesn't belong to me. I am just working on it for bragging rights. LOL! Believe it or not, both cars are within 40 miles of each other right now. I am working on the #1 car which has the 390, and the owner of the #2 car which is a 290, is a friend of mine. I went to look at the #2 car last week end. Living the dream!

Very cool! Just watched the video. Does the driver's side door not open? Any special mods to the motor to help it sustain long-term high RPM's?

Yes the driver's door opens but a PITA to climb over the roll bar.

The engine was suppose to be "stock" but they ran a hotter cam, headers, a 8 qt oil pan, and engine oil cooler. So, who knows what else they did. They had oil cooler for the differential as well.
This is kind of a neat picture when you know the story behind it. They had pulled the engine which is why it is sitting so high in front. They were building a Supercharged engine to make the Bonneville run. Oh, and notice the engine oil cooler mounted behind the bumper.. We just bought one off of Epay for $850.00. Ouch!
