There is a spring washer on the knob that grabs the shaft. Flatten the bend in the washer toward the knob and it will slide off.

got the knob off
now can't get the chrome ring and the electronic switch out.

tried the method I used on headlight switch
which is to use a flat blade screwdriver
inserted into one of the gaps in the threaded ring
and tap with hammer

but it will not budge

what is the correct way to remove wiper switch after knob is removed ?

HELP !

Working off memory here (which may not be that great!), but I think I either gripped the outside and turned and ruined the finish, or stuck a tiny flathead in the thing inside the chrome ring and turned to loosen. Now you got the knob off you should be able to see what's what (provided it's similar to an '84).

Good luck Dave!

Not sure, but check to see if it's like the dash mounted ignition switch...(on the ignition switch you push it towards the dash from behind to compress the spring on front and rotate it to disengage the bezel). Good luck.

I have an original quote I use in the shop "If you got the job done, no one was injured, and you didn't break anything (or in this case scratch) that you did it the "correct" way.

I once made a spanner to remove a stubborn bezel nut. I made it from 1/8" flat steel. I drilled a hole about 3/4" diameter then two small holes 180 degrees apart. The small holes were threaded for screws to be inserted. The protruding ends of the screws were filed down to fit into the slots in the bezel nut.
