350 SBC emissions

Just picked up an 88 Grand Wagoneer with a Mr. Goodwrench 350 sbc crate engine swap. Originally had a 360...Vehicle came from northern az and didn't require emission testing up there. The area I'm at does require emission. Not sure what emissions stuff goes with a crate engine. Do I just throw a cat on it and call it a day? Or is it more in depth? Noob here lol

You're going to have to get "official" info from the the local county/state agency requiring your smog tests. Regardless of what the internet says, "they" are the ones that will allow or kill a non-factory motor swap.

I know that engine swaps have to be the same year or newer and you must carry over the emissions from the donor vehicle. This being a crate engine I'm not sure what emissions it should have but I guess I could ask a shop or the local agency for clarification.

tread carefully rumor has it certain inspections will get it blacklisted in AZ and you won't be able to register it.

easiest would be like an 88 gm tbi engine.
not sure but suspect a carburetor won't fly?

Interesting... even thought the original 360 was carb. You think a 350 carb will bean issue?

No 1988(or newer) GM 350 had a carb AFAIK.
If they are following EPA regs engine has to be 1988 or newer and whatever emissions replacement came with would need to match.
Telling them it's a "crate" engine may not be a good idea?

Oh gotcha. Yeah I'm gonna take it to local shop that got my 73 J4000 to pass emissions and see what they say. I just want to get the registration and title in my name. Then the build can start.

In California, you can transfer title w/o a smog check but you can't register w/o a smog check. We are able to set it in a "Planned Non-Operation" status that basically hit's pause on the registration. Maybe you can do that too?

I was reading over the Arizona revised statues and title transfer w/o registration is an option though hardly ever done. I'm taking it to a shop next week to see how in depth I'd have to go to get it through emissions. From there I'll determine which route I'm gonna go.

Man, I feel sorry for you guys in states that require all that BS. I'm so glad I don't have to go through it.

It really depends on the state - you should look into the laws for your state. In Portland they just check to make sure you have a cat with an undercar mirror and do a sniffer test, they don't even pop the hood.
