My '79 Limited parts rig has 3.54s. I think that's stock. Seems like I remember the 2.72 and 3.31 (optional) started with 1980? Not sure on that. Somebody will correct me.

Woodstock- you're correct.

I parted out a 78 Cherokee 'S'(NT) and 79 Cherokee Cheif (WT) and both of them had 3.54 gears. The Cheif also had rear LS.

Also, they both had 360/TH400/BW1339 drivetrains.

I believe 3.73 was optional(?)

The 3.07 and 3.54 ratios were the available ratios for the Wagoneers of that year. A Limited that I parted out came with the 3.07's.

i guess i;ll have to find a tag or stamp on it to see what it has, i don't know if i'll get it if it has 3.07's. i wanted to put a lift and big tires on it.

went back and looked again. it had a tag on the rear that said 14-43 so that makes it a 3.07

bad news.

Good news is you can go up to 3.92 on you're current carrier. You'll probably want to add a locker in the rear anyway if you going to put on big tires and off road it. 3.54s would have been ok, but higher numberically will probably be better of 33s - 35s.
