Scorpion roller rocker pushrod length?

I picked up a set of the Scorpion roller rockers for the 360 i'm building that bolt onto brigde over style heads without milling them down. Went to put them on and found the pushrods were quite a bit too short. Does anybody know off hand what length pushrods i will need? It has factory deck on the block and the heads havent been shaved. Running hydraulic flat tappet summit cam. I did some searching around and found that 8.250" might be right but not sure??

Thanks

you need to correctly determine the needed lenght with a adjustable pushrod.

yes, i know this would be the ideal way to determine it, but i do not own an adjustable pushrod and just thought someone else may have run into the same problem with their 360.

Its pretty slick actually. The pedastal mounts that center in the shaft of the rocker are notched and they come with a U chanel that crosses between the two rockers of each cylinder which the notched parts fit into to keep them straight. Pictures would be better but i dont have any at the moment.

Cool, Im really considering these now, they are quite a bit cheaper than the harland sharps. If you could post pics some day that would be really cool. Thanks for answering my questions

Just to follow up on this, i borrowed some adjustable pushrods and set it up for the lifter plunger to go down the same amount as a stock pushrod and rocker assembly does. Ended up with needing 8.275" pushrods.

Just put together a 360 for a friend (Polarfire) this past weekend. Block and heads were minimally surfaced. The cam was an Erson RV grind. Anyway the push-rod length came out to 8.225. Push-rod required length was determined by using an adjustable push-rod to find zero lash and then adding 0.030 to that measurement for lifter preload. All valves were checked for push-rod length and the variance in measurement was less than 5 thousands.

This was my first experience with the Scorpion pedestal mount rockers and I must say the rockers were impressive.

Here are a couple of pics from the build that Woodchomper is referring too:

Can't wait to get this thing in my J10! Big thanks to Woodchomper, Del and Billyj7175 for helping get this thing together!

I know this is an older thread but I just wanted to ask if those are stock valve covers? If so, did they clear the roller rockers without any issues?

Thanks.

Yes the factory rods will be way too short. I'm using a full set of 3/8" adjustable crane pushrods and my lengths range from 8.278" to 8.287" with a crane 863901 cam. .456" and .487 lift. You will have to measure yours with a adjustable test pushrod if your buying a new set of fixed length pushrods. A different cam with a different base circle will affect length.

Also I had to machine more relief in my exhaust rockers because they were making contact to the side of my original 5/16" pushrod at full lift. The scorpions don't clear if the lift is more than ~0.475". It's easy just use air drill with metal cutting tip to shave the aluminum. I emailed Scorpion with this problem and they were OK with the me providing more clearance. Engine quiet now.
