I will take some pics of the setup i put on this weekend for the shift mechanism. Yours looks like mine, and mine does not match the Manual picture either. No spring in the U bracket,

You could pull the cotter pin out and remove the linkage. Then "click" the U bracket thru the gears to visualize the geometry.

Fine! the linkage is at least not "botched" . for once



unfortunatelly the jeep parks i a clean hall over the winter.
I have no garage to park them at home so far.
Have to built on in spring/sommer
the hall is no garage where i can work on the car.
There are other cars stored.

Therefore I can only do theortical work in the meantime

Now Im "between the devil and the deep blue sea" with my carb.

(Hope this phrase is right..)


I dont know my rod size and type. an Anybody decrypt the number on the rod? mikes carburetor parts cant do it.



Stock for the carb is 70x47 and orange springs.

the used jets are one step leaner with .95 main and .92 secondary.


I cant find carter parts in germany.

only edelbrock e.g. by edelbrock dot eu. Or other shops

In the 1406 ede calibration chart the 70x47 seams very lean, but the chart is with .92 main (#10)



Cant find a chart like this for the carter 625cfm
The 70x47 is not a part of the 1406 calibration kit.


I want only buy new rods and piston springs, and jets if neccesarry.
And a seal kit

the stock setting for the 9637 is:
cruise.98-70=28
power98-47=51

My current setting is
cruise:95-68=27
power: 95-55=40

But I dont have a clue what to do.

Is this to lean for power? Should I change the rods?
Maybe I built the carb together, and drive some miles in the spring and check the color of the sparks.
Or do some checks in the garage with the old engine exhaust tester (lamda probe).

Another method is to install a wide band oxygen sensor and gauge. That will tell you how it's running.

I wish I had more carb knowledge for you but I always just ran a stocker on mine until I went EFI.

a 4bbl was an Option for the Chief
In the 571 pages manual jeep engines from Mopar i have read something about the AFB for the 360amc
Nobody here who has a Carter AFB in his chief?


I will order a repair kit and the stock rods an jets for the AFB and give this a try.
