    Leaky electronic ign!?

Hey all, I've got a 1980 J10, and just noticed the Motorcraft unit on the drivers side fenderwell has some clear gummy drool running back down on the sheet metal under it. Everything seems fine with the truck otherwise. What's the heck is going on? Thanks, Chris

When modules get too hot they can melt goo out.
Could be from an old module failure too?

The modules are "potted;" that is, the circuit board and components are put into the aluminum case which is filled with liquid plastic, known (not surprisingly) as "potting compound." The module is mostly a big transistor that handles the coil switching that was in prior years handled by the opening and closing of the ignition points. If something goes wrong, the module overheats and could melt the plastic block.
