California vin swap

Heard about it, never seen it in person.

Pickapart in Anaheim, Ca dropped a J10 in the yards on Monday so I went to check it out. Posting said J5A46....... sticker on the bed says J9M46........ Hmmm. Maybe someone misread the numbers?

No. The door frame has the J9M tag. The firewall has the J5A tag. Pop rivets on the firewall tag. Truck had the 8 lug axles and originally was a manual transmission(still sports 3 pedals and manual column). Now it has a th400 and quadratrac.

I could finally get back there with some tools today, but the steering box was gone(drat) as well as the front axle. Rear 60 was still there. 3 piece front bumper was there. Hood bar was gone before they dropped it.

Been a couple of years since there was a jtruck in the yards(18) out here. The last one that they had listed as a j10 was a dj5.

My understanding there is some motivation for a '79 truck to assume a '75 identity in California. A '75 should not require an emissions inspection. Maybe somebody used the 4-speed combo for another vehicle and combined the remains of a '75 and a '79. You understand that 46 is a J20? A J10 would be 25 or 45.
