Roll Bar And Brush Gaurd Paint

The black on my roll bar and brush guard is pretty worn. does anyone know what kind of paint these originally came with?

I'm thinking some type of satin or semi-gloss black. but I have never seen an original with good enough paint to tell.

No factory info but suspect AMC just used in-house black enamel rather than using anything exotic/expensive just for bolt-on accessories. Again: speculation, not fact. If you just want to get it 'black' again just get whatever your local sources sell in enamel rattle cans. If you want something more durable against road grime I'd suggest PJ1 Coatings rattle can 'Fast Black' epoxy enamel. Not powder coat tough but much tougher than reg enamel. Used it on many mc frame and hdw restos and it holds up well to kicked up road grit abrasion and UV rays and wrenches. If you decide to go that route. Beware it's a SLOW cure top coat...so let it cure. Where I live even in the heat of summer it's 50*F at night so I wait 7 days before stuffing the motor back into the frame. Good tough coating if you follow the rules.

Do you know if they sell that by the quart? and is it a semi-gloss?

I'd rather shoot it with my spray gun.

Eastwood chassis black is some tough paint too.
Sprayed it on many things and it's held up extremely well.

Don't know if comes in qts. I've only bought it in rattle cans. It's a gloss. Not in your face shiny fender gloss but still a gloss.

As close as you're goingt to get

Really close if not best match available at Autozone & Pep boys
Understand these roll bars were after market & not painted by Jeep or AMC. Slicker than satin not high gloss.

I think the brush guard I had on a late model J10 ('84 I think) was powder coated. It may have been done by a PO, but it was a nice satin black that was thick and tough. When the brush guard was damaged in an accident the coating on the brush guard peeled off in pieces much larger than paint flakes.

Correction- it just needed a water pump!
