    Fake woodgrain on '70s Wagoneers?

In every picture I've seen of '70s Wagoneers with the metal trim stripes running on the side that I know to be original, like old advertisements, and this museum piece:

there's fake woodgrain inside the stainless trim. It looks a little darker than the later Grand Wag woodgrains

Was that true of all wagoneers with that style of stainless trim?

It looks darker, but it would be better see a picture of it under the sun. Probably they restore this one, and no finding a perfect or close match for the wood grain, they put a different one.

This one from an original advertisment for a 1977 Wagoneer has the same look:

      and here:

I think I might have seen some that were lighter colored like the latter Grand Wags, but then again maybe that was faded color on old vehicles.

It was pretty light on my '76:

But then again it cooked in the Colorado high desert for 30 years.

I've got a tiny bit of OEM woodgrain left on the inside of my doors where it folded over.

It is darker than on the grand wags, looks more like a stained walnut.

That is a really freakin' nice 1973!!!!!

My woodgrain is original, and doesn't seem to have faded any. It's not cracked or anything. I think this is because the vinyl woodgrain used on there early "woodies" is of a thicker material than what was used on the grand Wagoneers. It resembles shelf paper in thickness and composition.
