Difference between BJ's Fuel Tank Skid Plate vs TGW's?

    Howdy,
I will be, eventually, needing a new fuel tank skid plate for my '84 GW, so, like any of us have done a million times, go straight to BJ's website and look them up...

    $600.00 Bucks?!

So, then I remember, "Oh yeah, Team Grand Wagoneer... go check them out and what do I find...

We are the Largest Full Size Jeep Parts Seller in the World, Specialize in Grand Wagoneer & Full Size Cherokee! We ship Worldwide!

$375.00 Bucks, a lot better on the ole wallet than BJ's.

But is there a difference between the two I don't know about? They're both made out of 16 guage steel, and TGW even comes already powder coated. Just curious that's all.

    Thanks!

Be patient, I sell a lot of these pulled from non Eastern vehicles for $100 not including S&H. I should have one in the next few weeks.

And if you're within driving distance of Knoxville, TN, I have a nice tank and skid plate with a new sending unit to boot.

Very interested in why the BJ's version is double the price aswell.

For basically the same cost you can get a powder coating, pad, brackets and a frame repair kit

Hopefully this will clear it up: we used to carry the same on that TGW does, but found it to be basically the same as the original (relatively thin, rust prone, and didn't really protect the tank when off-roading).

Ours is now a custom built, very heavy duty actual skid plate, rather than thin metal that gets mangled on the trail. Ours function as a true off-road style skid plate to protect the tank from large rocks and obstacles.

Also, ours ships for free in the lower 48, so the price is actually closer between the two.

I have the bj's version. If you intend to keep your jeep till you take a dirt nap like me, then this is worth the extra money. It is lots thicker than oem and TGW skid plate. Also, if you do any offroad stuff where rocks and the tank skidplate will meet, you should consider this. My oem skid plate rotted out when my 89 was 10 years old. The bj's one has been on since 04 or whenever the bj's website came online. It has surface rust and is slated for cleaning and replate in the spring. Hope this helps.

I can use one if you have any.

Old thread, I know, doesn't change the fact that I need one.

                  Update.

Got one from you off eBay. Price higher now. It included the hangers and triangle bracket. It will outlast my poor rust bucket. Thanks.
