    First wagoneer camping trip.

First camping trip in the wagoneer. We ran up old stage road out of colorado springs, turned at the rock sprayed "peach" and got the wagoneer it's first taste of real off road driving. Things learned on the trip...
    1. I'm not happy with the oil pressure at lower rpms.. it gets right around 20 or lower... close to 40 when cruising with higher rpms....
    2. stock roof rack, is in name only. I need a proper safari rack stat.
3a. Stutter bumps on dirt roads will rattle EVERYTHING that can possibly be loose. I lost my exhaust from the cat to the tip, it's now tied on the roof rack.
3b. A 360 with basically headers is really LOUD and irritates the golfers at the Broadmoor on a Sunday morning..
    4. The 4wd system works great even 4 low.
    5. The wagoneer is a beast, I followed a buddies lifted little cherokee pretty well being stock..
    6. I want more practice off roading
    7. I'm now hooked.

So yea 2 adults, 2 toddlers, and 3 70 pound dogs all went camping this weekend in one wagoneer. We carried all of the necessities for 4wd camping and packed it all back out. Great time had by all.

Sounds cool! I guess I haven't been on that road in almost 20 years. I used to like to drive my MG Midget to Cripple Creek in winter that way -- the road is a lot smoother with a couple of feet of snow on it. I like the spot not far up where you can park and watch the lights of Colorado Springs come on at night. Looks like the whole prairie is on fire!

What oil are you running? Switching to 10W40 really improved the pressure on mine.

                  I was running 10 w 30 but 10 w 40 seems to be a natural transition.
My 360 has 100K on it and it's not blowing smoke...I'm about 1K from an oil change.

For those wondering we were on Gould Creek Tr374 for camping. It's a pretty easy trail with a creek crossing and some off camber rocky sections.
A stock loaded down wagoneer was able to handle it with some careful driving in the off camber and rocky sections. I was in 4 low and alternating between 2 and L on the trans, probably overkill but at least I got to use the system.
My buddy I was chasing was in 2wd low, he never got out to lock his front hubs. He's running a dana 44 front and Ford 9 inch rear with about a 6 inch lift and 32s.

Funny, I went to school at SIU and rock climbed all over that region. There are MANY days I miss Carbondale.

There's nothing wrong with 20psi on a warmed engine with low rpm.
But I like volume over pressure, just like I like torque over HP. Comes from driving oil burners I guess.

I just get paranoid in the mountains. The last thing I want is a beak down.
In all honesty for a first trip the jeep performed really well.
