Question Quadratrac vs. SelecTrac / locking hubs

Following a previous E-mail (which I can't find anymore) I have the following question: On a '83 Wagoneer (SelecTrac?) there are locking hubs mounted; This seems to be "overkill", as the SelecTrac offers selectable 2WD. On a 1982 Wagoneer (QuadraTrac) it would be much more useful having the locking hubs mounted, as QuadraTrac is full-time 4WD.
1) is this correct?
2) would it be possible to use the locking hubs on the '82 QuadraTrac? Both are Dana44's, so technically it wil l fit, but will anything be damaged from using the locking hubs on the QuadraTrac? (as the front is still running, but disconnected on the hubs only). thanks, T.

you cannot use hubs on the '82 Q/T, the NP219. it will destroy the viscous coupler immediatly.

you can on the '83 S/T, the NP 229,but you must not engage 4X mode with them unlocked,or you will again destroy the V/C in short order.

i have locking hubs on my '83 with the 229. i like it,all my front axle components are not spinning all summer long.

Do NOT run (un)locking hubs with your stock QT. Unless you're in E-drive, you will ruin it.

You can run locking hubs with the MileMarker Part time kit, however.

I have some QT info, but Flint has much much more. In a few hours, I'm sure he'll find this post and give you the link.

Oops.

The 219 is a FT 4WD case, right?. You don't want to run hubs with that, really, either.

I'm shutting up now.
