    Stock front bumper question?

Concerning fix or other for the AMC factory front bumper.

I was wondering what the approximate costs for some straightening and general polishing
would be for this front bumper?

    Answer from local bumper shop
"IF ITS POLISHED ALUM 220.00 IF ITS CHROME ALUM CAN NOT DO"

The front bumper is aluminum but it is chromed.Correct?

I'm not sure if AMC Jeep made a polished solid aluminum front bumper?

    Curious....

On an 81 it should just be a clear coated alum bumper.

So if it is a clear coated aluminum bumper, it
      should be repairable/straightened?
      Can be straightened?

It's cheaper to find one in good shape at a junkyard,

Shouldn't I be able to get a bumper shop to staighten the bumper out and just do some minor
buffing/cleanup? The thing doesn't have you look like off the show room floor just straight and clean. My current finish on the bumper is in very good condition. It just needs a bit of straightening

Depends on how bad the tweaks are. Can you email some pics to me? Got a couple of ideas if they are not too bad.

From what I see, the left side looks like the end is rolled down a little, and the right end is back causing the bulge on top. If you have access to a porta power or high lift and can find something to brace the other end to, shove the right end forward and take a rag and piece of 2x6 and roll the bulge down. Watch that the thing does not jump out on you. For the left end a "pogo stick" (about a 4 foot tube with a foot and about 6 foot of chain with a hook on one end and a claw on the other) hooked over the top and rolled down will roll that end back up. If you know someone at a body shop he probably has one. Might be able to get someone at a shop to do it as a side job for $20 or so, should only take him 1/2 hour or so.

Thanks for the advise. So bascially this shouldn't be so hard to just straighten out and a bit of cleanup. The bumpers finish is in pretty good shape
