    As if.....

...I don't have enough issues to deal with.

When inspecting the 360 I am going through after I pulled it I noticed there was rusty looking stains on the back of the block where it looked like it was leaking between the intake & head......
I didn't notice then that the rear most intake bolt was a different size till I started pulling the intake...
Some PO...... or POS depending on your take of the situation, made a "repair" of some sorts. (broken bolt)

It seems like they welded the hole shut then drilled it out and tapped it for a 1/4" bolt. They then filled the hole with some kind of permatex and glued the bolt in....????

Late in the day and too tired to make good decisions, I decided to drill it out and tap it to a 7/16" bolt using the intake hole as somewhat of a guide.
Didn't work out so well, the hole is more cock eyed than I am.

I need a repair idea that doesn't involve new heads because I DO NOT have the money.

Would it be possible to weld a 3/8" stud in the hole sticking up JUST enough to clear the intake and get a nut on it? I mean, I CAN weld one in, but will that work?

I am too tired to think straight right now.......Please let me know if you guys have any ideas

the only way to do it right is to drill it out and tap but you would be better off replacing the head. trying to get it straight while installed is impossible and you should send it off to the machine shop and have this done so a replacement head would be a better option.

Take the head off, take it to your local machine shop and have them drill/helicoil the hole. Fixed right.

I'd expect this repair will be cheaper than a replacement head.

I'm with Tim, pull the head and have a machine shop do it correctly. You'll never get the new hole square by hand and it'll cause you grief till you finally get fed up and end up taking it to a shop anyway.

Have you spoke to any of the AZ Jeeper's?
They are a GREAT bunch, and one of them have to have a set of heads lying around their camps.

But I would just replace that head too.
(Ristow)fram!....that deserves a ratchet upside the head.

I would be but it would have to be very cheap or somebody would have to be willing to wait for payment till next moths disability check.

Where are you located? I am in Payson.

                      HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I've had a couple helicoils installed in VW heads and I think it was about $20/each (20 years ago). As frustrating as this is, it's not a death blow to any of your parts. When I first started reading this I though you were going to say the head was cracked or warped.

I would hit up Mr. Wiley-Moe:

He usually has super good prices on stuff he sells and you are probably close enough to make it worth a road trip to pick it up. Would probably be quicker than the machinist and you don't have to worry about a machinist doing bad work.

                              Thanks guys

I am unfortunately getting side tracked on other pressing issues so the Wagoneer is going to have to wait for now.

I will get in touch when I get to working on it again, hopefully soon.
