    New Paint for my 89.

Well after 2 1/2 years of ownership its finally time for new paint. In order to help out the painter and really for me to spend time cleaning and polishing the parts I stripped off the trim as best I could. I left the door handles for him so he could get in and out of it, but removed the interior door panels so he could get to them easily. I also left all of the stainless trim around the windows, I was afraid I would not be able to get it as tight as the original. In my case the wood is fairly good, so I am masking it off. I will then use a paintless dent repair guy to remove any dings and dents out of the wood grain areas.

So far I am extremely pleased that I am not uncovering any rust areas. I repaired the two lower rear quarters, the previous owner lived on a long gravel driveway on a ranch in Wyoming. Other than that, just a small bubbling area at the front marker light.

In a couple of weeks she will be shining like a new penny.

What color are you going with? Keeping the trim and wood on?
There are those that have and those that will.

1986 Grand Wagoneer, BONE STOCK just the way I like em!

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

I am going with the original PY3 Sand Metallic and leaving all the wood trim and original 3m dinoc. A true prissy refurbish in the spirit of this category.

It is a low mileage two owner, so for now I am keeping it original.

So that's what those holes are for on the rear roll pan...I've never seen an FSJ that still had the piece of rubber to fill the gap between body and bumper.

Way to go Kid. Getting it ready for the AMC Show in Lufkin TX June 4 is pushing it. If you need some help putting it all back together just call Grandpa.

So here it is back from the painter. These were taken before I began reassembly. It really turned out great. After it cures it will go back for a wet sand and buff.

I have owned this Wagoneer for 2 1/2 years, with new paint it just comes alive. They are truly a very good looking vehicle with its polished stainless trim and woodgrain sides. I will keep you posted as I reassemble it.

BJ's messed up my order for my Door handle gaskets and its stopped me dead in my tracks. So close. BJ's is making it right but it slowed me down by 5 or 6 days. They wanted $65 to overnight the darn things, that seemed excessive.

That doesn't seem excessive, it is excessive.

                    That color looks great.

Thanks guys. Desert sand metallic is one of my top three favorites along with Baltic blue and black cherry metallic.

I really was looking forward to cruising around this weekend.

That is the original color on my 88, but my woodgrain didn't look that good when I bought it in '04. Your vinyl looks like it is still brand new from the pics! You have a real stunner there!
It is also my favorite color for these rigs with the woodgrain.

Thanks, I got lucky with the wood. It has its few dings that need touching up.

My gaskets came in and I got the door handles installed last night. Now to button up the interior and start driving it again. I will shot some poser shots and post them up. I am real proud of how it turned out, they are such a cool ride.
