BJ's vs BDS vs Rustys vs Rancho

I am about ready to get a 4" lift for my '86GW.

I want to run 35" tall tires and plan to break out the sawsall to creat a little more clearance. For a while tho' I have 31" tires that work fine.

My Jeep is my daily driver, but I don't travel far to work, only about 5 miles each way. It will be used for trails to go camping, hunting, and general exploring. My Jeep is loaded pretty good with a large roof rack, full sized spare(as it should be), tools kids and such.

I have been lurking the forums for about a year now and still can't decide which lift to use. I was originally looking at BDS but then I stopped seeing so much about them. Then I started looking towards BJ's. The other manufacturers also don't look to bad. I just don't want to spend a small fortune on the lift (like Skyjacker).

    Thanks

    RyPhil

i bought the skyjacker lift to begin with. it gave you new leaf packs up front with the drop pitman arm and blocks for the rear. whoopee! anyway, bjs gives you actual 4" springs in the rear which i think is cool. blocks just blow hardcore. anyway, my setup ran kinda stiff in my opinion but worked great. someone else will have to chime in for the actual performance of these (BJs) springs

I've got two rigs with rusty's front springs (old manufacturer?). They work fine ride rougher than stock. Flex is so-so. One's got an AAL and 2" block in the rear and the other has a shackle flip and block.

Rusty's has since changed spring manufacturers to a high quality place in Canada from what I hear.

BJ's are made by Rusty's old manufacturer from my understanding, and their customer service is great.

BDS has a great lifetime warranty. if it breaks they replace it no questions asked.

Rough country are supposed to be stiff

I would go with Rusty's or BJ's personally

BJs and rusty's both over a great product. I picked mine up from rusty's before BJs sold their own kits, and liked it fine. BJs seem to offer better service and less shipping problems though. Rusty can take his time getting parts but I haven't heard any complaints from BJs customers.

BTW - what gearing do you have? I'd hate to think you're going to have a daily driver with 35s and 2.73s.....

I have stock gears in it now but was planning on changing to something around 3.50 to 3.75 when I get the big tires. I am also going to put in some type of locking diff when I change the tires.

I checked prices on BJ's and BDS.

              BJ's $585 Kit + $75 Pitman Arm $120 Shipping = $780

              BDS $800 Kit + $0 shipping = $800

              BDS includes Pitman Arm.

BDS has a local dealer. BJ's has much more than just lifts.

What to do? What to do?

                        Brent,

I have already talked to you over the phone ( I bought a rear tailgate seal and swaybar bushings) and hearing how you dealt with me has a lot to do with why you are on my list. I really want to know how the 4 compare to each other and what benefits one may have over another.

Hey Ryan, is it true that BJ's offers a discount to IFSJA members ? That might help to sway a few opinions. I'll most likely order your 4" kit sometime in the spring, after all the snow has melted in the South Texas area !

I bought the Rusty's lift through BJ's cause I wanted the Rusty's lift, but also wanted to support BJ's. I got the later Canadian made springs and I couldn't be happier with the ride and the flex. I went with the rear AAL and block cause my rear springs were in good shape and I don't mind a block 2" or less. Can't beat the price at $300 including shocks, but shipping from Rusty's wasn't cheap.
