81 Cherokee FI plan

Trying to get into this fuel injection set up and reading til my head is numb.
A local yard that I know of is like the old yards that are more on the expensive side and the cars sit for years before they're crushed.
He's got several large med-heavy duty trucks and have been eyeing this old '92 budget rental truck with a 454/Allison trans in it.
I was able to strip the whole engine harness and get as much as i could.
It started raining so I had to contort myself and pull the tilt front hood down on me and couldn't really label the wires/connections like I'd wanted. (Hope that doesn't bite me in the process)

I picked this one since what I've read, it has the larger throttle body (makes sense) BUT, the ECU doesn't look like the others I've seen on other sites.

Anyone got simple tips to look for on stripping down a harness?
Remember, it's a 1992 Chevy med duty truck.
If anyone has wiring diagrams, that would also be very helpful.

Thanks.
E

Wiring diagrams change a little depending on year and computer used.

What is the computer PN#?

Several write-ups on various sites for thinning a TBI harness.

Babywag, Here's a couple pics of truck and wiring etc.. I'm not a 'computer' person and don't understand why all of a sudden that it only puts in a link and not the actual picture..

For those that don't feel like clicking on them, ECU re-man'd #(looks like)

I see NO info anywhere about that ecm. I have no idea what you have a there?

Suggest you find a 1227747 or similar that has (tuning) support and readily available.
Binderplanet has write-up with pics on thinning a harness.
Harness can be modified/thinned matching computer choice.

.... yep..
I've been really busy and on top of that, got a new job.
Waking up @03:45a isn't letting me get much done when I have to be in bed around 9.

I was out at another pull-it and MAN.. People just tear through things.
Every harness that I saw was slashed or burned.
Thats why I got the one that I did.

I'm going to try and get back there and see what the other trucks have in their's (he's got a few of them)
I couldn't come up with anything either. BUT, Orielly's said he crossed it and came up with another number, but I didn't write that one down.
He's got about 30acres of vehicles, so I should be able to find something.
Maybe in a van? Wasps are out already and wish he would let me 'fog' a car before I started digging..

Oh, and the TPS on the side of the throttle body is H U G E. Like about 1/3rd of the whole throttle body. (probably for the Allison.

I think your confusing a TPS with a governor. They were used on commercial trucks.

Thanks again Bill.
I googled your city and MAN.. Pretty place.
I dated a girl whose parents (the Dahl's) lived right on Puget Sound. Cool place, just not much sun.

LOL That's what people say who have never been here or only come in the winter.
Just check annual rain falls compared with places like the "sunshine state and you may be surprised.
I'm also on an island so we stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

It's still probably lots nicer than Memphis area.
It's the worlds larges truck-stop trying desperately to be a city..
Bound by racism and still fighting the civil war, plus it's pretty flat and not much pretty nature to look at.

Anywho, Will any of the throttle body'd ECU's just plug in?
And, can I get away from the governor without having to get a whole different throttle body?

Thanks again.

I think your just looking for more work then it's worth to try and make that stuff work.
Better to just read the parts required FAQ on the binderplanet, print out the provided shopping list and then hit the junkyard for what is now to work.

I used to be stationed in Millington a couple times so I'm all too familiar with Memphis and Mud island, Beal street, the Rendezvous ........ etc.

That's just it.. Most every truck I've come across has been chewed up/cut up
and the rental truck was ALL THERE just sitting. I can look for another Throttle body if this one WON'T work AT ALL, but I figured (after you pointed out the governor) that I'm not going to be racing this thing anyway, and just need to find out what the governor is set to.

Not exactly trying to make it harder, just that if I'm going to jump into fuel injection, I might as well get a complete system of whatever it is.
I also have a '64 Chevy 2-ton that I'm building up for my side blasting business that will be utilizing a 472 Caddy/NV4500 5spd, hydro-boost brakes, rolling on 1.5-ton axles from a '01 Chevy HD3500 with Semi Super Singles out back. (I'd like to see if it will spin the tires with 5.13's in the Dana 80 and the low 6.34:1 first of the NV4500 and the torque of the Caddy )
I can always save this harness for that one IF!! I find a complete TBI harness in my jaunts to the different yards around here.

gotta take off..

hydroboost?

Looks like the truck has hydroboost too. Might as well pull that if it's there/good.
