Man Blake, I have to figure out where you're buying these axles that they're sooo cheap. Around here, I can't find a decent 78-79 F250 front axle for less than $600. Don't even ask about Dana 60's.
LOL
Junkyards around here sell ANY axle for ~90 bucks. Dana 27 all the way to Dana 80 or 14bolt.

Lots of FF axles on CL for less than $200.
Jeeze, you find one of those HP D44's and 14 bolts that you used in Goofy for $90 each, you give me a call and I'll drive out to Colorado to get them from you!
The yards around here in NJ actually pull those more expensive parts and hold them to the side, so you have to pay more for them. It sucks living in the rust belt.

I just picked up a (passenger side front diff) Dana 60/70 trac lock set with 3.55 gears, tire to tire, off a 93 dodge Cummings powered pick up for $500 here in the Baltimore area. Got a Dana 300 t-case off a CJ for another $200. Just need to get a few other bits, but for around a total of $1300 i should be able to complete this swap and have my drivetrain beefed up and ready for some more power.
Now I've never seen axels at any junk yards around here for $90 a pop, but my brother just got a front king pinned Dana 60 off a military truck at local junk yard called Banks, for $300 with 4.56's in it.
For the $$$$ it just seems to make more sense to join the 1 ton club.

Sorry, my original post was a little inaccurate - they are $100 not $90
We never try to pull one over on you. Learn why our used car parts pricing is honest and clear-cut on every used part you pull from our yard, every time.
The rear D44 from a JK Rubi is a fairly stout axle. 8.9" ring gear, 32 spline shafts, much larger pinion. So certainly stronger than ours.
However the front D44 is a piece of junk. The shafts neck down to D30 size, the tubes are natorious for cracking in half, and the C's need to be reinforced or they bend.
But if you get one, you have to get the other. As not many axles use a 5x5 bolt patern.
You are far better off getting 3/4 or 1 tons from a leaf sprung vehicle.

Wish I could get them for that around here. FF rears $200^ on CL sometimes, but not fronts. I gave $800 for my D60/14 matched set and that was a steal for my area.
Some of you guys have all the good parts luck, you really need to share.
Yup, at the pull-a-parts down here you can get a set of axles, any type, for around $250 IIRC. Site is messed up right now, so I can't be exact, but it's somewhere in the neighborhood. That's what I'm gonna do when I decide to do the swap.
