    Did something REALLY stupid!

While checking brake noise on my Caprice wagon discovered the caliper was dragging. No biggie just rebuild them.
Call to NAPA ~$9 for required parts.
So last weekend took it apart, cleaned/rebuilt/tested calipers.
Installed them, bled system, easy easy...wow I actually completed a task.
Test drive was uneventful and brakes worked fine.

So started to clean up my tools an realized I did NOT use brake fluid.
To my horror I had somehow grabbed the wrong bottle.
Exact same shape/size/similar labels...but still SERIOUSLY?

I have been working on cars for ~35yrs and just in disbelief that I did something so freakin STUPID!

So now I get to freakin flush & replace everything.

Just so disgusted and mad @ myself!

Tony, welcome to the human race. We all have occasional brain fart/oopsies or at my age "senior moments". At least it wasn't a customers car. Worse yet your wifes car. That'd pretty much cancel out any future late night in the garage offers for a sandwich and a cold beer.

I'm sure the rubber in system probably start getting funky and risk loss of hyd. brakes completely?
I drive my kids all over hell and no way worth taking any chances.
Lots idiot drivers/bad traffic here with frequent sudden/unexpected stops required etc.
Just blows cuz it is hard/painful to work on car these days for me and costing me bunch $$ cuz of stupidity.

yes,.... brakes = more important than almost anything on the vehicle.

heck, I wish I just knew how to work on brakes, ( or anything )

                        look at it this way.

you will have an excellent, fresh hydraulic braking system

running at optimal efficiency when done.

                        but we feel for you.

Nice...fluid draining out has a green tint to it.

Sigh. That SUCKS. your Caprice is your daily driver, right? I hope that green tint isn't copper oxide from a reaction between the interior of the hard brake lines and the wax & grease remover.

I borrowed one of these last time I flushed the brakes on my Jeep (way back when I first bought it). It works really well for an actual flush:

You can home make one as well:

I was gonna make one way back then but you and someone else recommended gravity bleeding and I have never looked back.

Yeah it was my DD, but Jeep is always on standby.

Everything will be rebuilt have spares from '96 parts car.
                              Master rebuilt
                              prop valve cleaned/flushed
I'll throw new kits in calipers again.
                              New hoses front & rear.
                              New wheel cylinders
freshly turned rotors & new wheel bearings
                              New pads & shoes

sigh...they wanted $125 for a new master $20 for rebuild kit.
I trust an oem rebuild unit over cheapnese anyday!!!

One good thing that came of this it gave me an excuse for this.

Regeared axle from '96 I'll have 3.73(s) now. Should be more fun than the crappy 2.93's?
It already had all new bearings/seals AND brakes installed.
Nice clean blasted/painted backing plates and rear cover. New axle bearings and seals.
                              It's been waiting for months.
