Remember that really dirty corner of the cargo carpet? Well I think it turned out pretty well.

      Carpet Dye

I am thinking I will try what dtatum did with his carpets to see if I can restore some of the color. If I mess it up, I will simply buy new carpet, but I hope I can bring back the color... time will tell.

Here is the thread I am hoping to follow:
I have taken my carpet out of my 91 JGW. The problem I have is that a large portion of the cargo carpet and front carpet has faded to almost a pink color. I was told the carpet color is dark sand. Does anyone know what color carpet dye will match the "dark sand" color? This would be a huge help if anyone knows.

The Aftermath of carpet power washing

So here is the patio aftermath from the day after my carpet power washing project. All of this dirt came out of the carpets.
Thankfully it has rained for two days and helped to wash it away.

          Spare Tire

I took the Jeep to the tire store to get checked out. The tread looked good, but I started to notice some cracking and wanted to get it checked out.

Turns out the tires were 16 years old, and the spare is original. (Definitely don't want to get a flat)

            Time for new tires

I have to admit, tires really determine the personality of a Jeep in my opinion. On my old Wrangler I had oversized AT's and I used it offroad quite often. This build is more of a prissy daily driver. (I have to admit, it is hard to type prissy when describing a Jeep, but from the forum I know it isn't a bad thing).

I have struggled with the tire selection. I either want traditional white walls or 30x9.50 BFG AT's.

Here it is with it's new tires the Hankook Optima Whitewalls

Before I left the shop, I had to have them pull out a BFG AT to put beside it just to make sure. The tire store gives you 30 days to change your mind.

The major deciding factor is the WW's were only $70 each which is over 1/2 the cost of the ATs. Plus they keep the factory look. With this said, I love the look of a Jeep with a set of BFGs.

              Rear Window Fixed

The first true mechanical fix I tackled was to repair the windows. The right side worked okay, but both left windows were hit or miss or not at all.

I opened up both the front and back panels. No surprises on the front, but the rear door has a 1x2 long piece of wood in it! Clearly someone tried to shim it. Unfortunately, I cannot get it out. I will have to cut it in half to get it out.
I'm still waiting for my additional flex track to arrive so I can get this window done. I did the drivers window first.

When I had the door panels off, I also added some sound dampening material to help with vibrations an noise reduction.

I made sure to add it to the inside of the doors too

                Sound Dampening

After adding sound dampening material to the doors, I got to work on the cargo area. I know the research says you don't have to cover all areas of the metal to get the full benefit, but once you get started, its hard to stop. It is hard not to cover everything for fear you will regret it later.

Needless to say, I covered it all anyway just to make sure.

Then I took the rear headliner out and added it too the roof.
I took the screws out of the bars up on the roof. This way when the screw are put back it should help form a waterproof seal and reduce the odds of a leak.

PS: Don't worry, I am not leaving the wing nuts on those wires. Just trying to protect the wires and keep them tied into the appropriate wire pairs.

The front was a little more of a challenge to get out.

Once the carpet was out there were a few tiny spots of surface rust. I used a wire brush and degreaser to clean the rust well. Then I treated it with special rust preventative paint.

Once everything was cleaned and prepped, I went to work putting down the front sound dampening material.

Thanks guys. Saying my Jeep is prissy STILL feels odd, but I will get over it once it's all done. Thanks again to everyone here on IFSJA for their assistance. I would not be able to do as much as I have without the support and guidance.

These pictures came fast because I spent all weekend on the Jeep. I have a package of more sound proofing arriving today so I will have this task complete. Then I can power wash the front carpets and try to dye them. If it doesn't work I will be ordering new carpets probably. I'm going to test one of the original floor mats first before hitting the carpets.

                            We will see...

                            Again, thanks for the support

More carpet cleaning today. I was home with a sick kid (an not feeling too well myself). Fortunately, a few Jeep projects took my mind off of the situation.

I used our hand held spot carpet cleaner to clean the back of the seats and also do a test on one of the old floor mats. I will uses these mats to do my first test on dying the carpets. If the floor mats do okay, then I will do the carpet too.

                                During the process:

Wow -- this is what came out of the seats (front seats and back of rear bench)
