    Rancho front spring questions

On my j10, the front springs are dead and inverted. The rear springs are ok, I'd like to lift it about 2.5 - 3" because I want a lower ride height, I actually use the truck for hauling stuff, and I feel a 4" kit is too tall, plus with a 2.5 inch lift I could easily run 33s.

So enough of the excuses, what I'm thinking of are rancho 44044s up front and maybe get some rear rough country springs out back or 2.5" blocks. Or just get a rough country kit and take some leaves out? Any other ideas?

yep! I ordered this kit and plan to install it sometime in the next 2 weeks.

2.5" of lift, better ride, gotta love it. You'll still neeed new springs though. I have a set of these to go on, too.

there are other replacement springs out there but I found mine on Craigslist for cheap so that made the decision for me.

What are you doing about the rear springs though? It's either gonna be blocks (not a huge fan) alter some lift springs or custom springs, or I guess a rear shackle flip...what I'm trying to find out is the easiest method

mine has blocks already from the previous owner. I am comfortable with them becuase they are just little 2"ers. Rocklaurence also has an FSSR kit that comes with some quality blocks. Look around on his website. He frequents IFSJA.org often...

I love my 44044's! I've read though, that you don't want them sua if you are going to do some serious, harsh off roading. I've seen plenty of pictures of bent main leafs.
I'd vote to get new springs for the back, since it's a truck, and you plan to use it as such. I don't see blocks being too good, under a lot of weight in the bed.
Now, to get away with it for awhile, put some air shocks under it. That's what i've got holding the back of my wagon up with at the moment.
I wonder if Rancho has a set of springs for the rear that would match well with the 44044's up front? I havnt seen of it yet so, idk...

What I do know, is that a local spring shop has a set of new GW rear springs, for what sounded like a reasonable price...But, those were for stock replacement. I'm sure if I got back to him, he could probably get a long aal for each set to get them up a bit more for me...But that's waiting for now, until I know when I need to get that gas tank out

From what I've seen, most of what you'll find available for 2" - 4" lift height from most of the main stream companies is blocks out back or a combination of 2"blocks and 2" lift springs. It's hard to find anything under a 4" lift that is all spring.

Now, as long as you aren't getting too crazy, blocks are fine. The biggest issue to watch out for IMO is axle wrap or cheap blocks cracking.

**** I guess I'm talking out of my rear end. I see there is now much less availability then there used to be****

                    Blocks suck

New more arched front springs & old stock springs with blocks are really bad. Hard front soft rears. Think about it. Any lifted spring is more arched & stiffer. Even the so called soft rides. Highly arched front springs & less arched back spring are dangerous on rough roads. Blocks also increase the possibility of spring wrap especially when towing.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Fix them issues yourself, instead of wasting the money. I found that it's not that hard.(thanks to the help of another member here) Don't know why you need an alignment now though. I didn't need to mess with it, until I changed my loose driver side tie rod end.

Unless you think it needs it becuase the steering wheel is off. Just adjust the adjusting sleeve on the tie-rod that attaches directly to the steering box... or if it's rusted up like mine, replace then adjust. That will get your steering wheel straight.
