Looks absolutely stunning!

So did they paint the black pinstripe when they painted the sides, and then you added a white (or grey?) pinstripe inside it? Looks great with the side graphics.

Boy, cutting that whole for the antenna has me jumpy.. I am hoping I can run it through the weather stripping for the back door on my wagon and the up to the roof.. I filled all the holes for the roof rack, so that isn't going back on. Might be hard for me to "hide" it and it may get pushed around a little. The magnets are pretty strong, so hopefully not. With my plan, I am concerned the wire will buffer in the wind and wear a spot on the paint, so a hole may have to be cut.. you are a brave man!

Yea, drilling that hole was stressful.
But, I did find a good body grommet, and sealed the hell out of it.

As for the pinstripe, the painter was supposed to just paint the black and I would add the silver accent stripe.
However, for some reason, he taped off the stripe, and painted the black.
This resulted in an orange painted pinstripe. UGH. I don't know why he did this, but I wasn't there and the damage was done.
So, Frank cut a stripe just larger than the orange, and we carefully covered the orange stripe. A real PITA.

In Today's News . . .

So, the HEAT has been brutal in the garage.
Progress has been slow... and I have NOT been overly motivated.

However, a few small jobs were done.

Here, I am cutting black screen and gluing it to the underside of the cowl screen.
A slow and tedious job, but I don't want a bunch of crap getting in the cowl sides again.
I was using the glasses to hold it down as the Goop set up.
I should have filled them with beer and drank during this!

Next, I installed the cowl panel ...

My washer nozzles were toast, so I found some junkyard doners, and fixed them up. Had to cut open the screen so they can squirt...
This is from inside the Jeep. Easy as there is no windshield!

More Details . . .

My steering column was not very pretty, so decided to paint it.
Too lazy to remove the whole thing. I took it apart, and cleaned it up.
Then I sanded it with 400 grit to smooth the corrosion.

I had broken the shift indicator off, so took the housing off and cleaned and repaired everything.
You have to compress, then pull the little retention clip out from the back.
This was NOT clear in the factory service manual.

A little tape, and some careful spray can use.

Then some tape removal and reassembly ...

Overall, pretty happy with the result!
I used Ultra matte paint btw.
I will put the shift indicator after dash install. Want to verify bulb works first.

Have been playing with the carpet some, letting it settle into the floor before I start to trim it.

I have been polishing stainless forever it seems! This is the last of it.

I laid it out on the carpet.
Note, I am not going to do the cargo floor stock.
I am just going to do 5 of the longer strips and call it good.

The tailgate will get the normal 7 strips.

Side glass day!

My glass guy came over and helped out today. Plan is to install side glass.

Started early as it's 85 and humid at 10am !

The 77 is in 2 pieces. The 79 had one frame that ran all around the edge. This one? nope.

Installing the pull rope to seat the glass . . .
Take note, the separate, forward vent window is already installed.

Push! Pull, Grunt .... And they're in.

Pretty happy with the tint level. wanted it dark, but not fully blacked out.

Next up.. soon, the windshield.

The Glass Man says: "No Problem"

In Today's News . . .

Had a day or two of "The crud" UGH.

No energy or motivation and it has been HOT !

Today was feeling better.... Let's Go!

First up, STILL can't get the driver door, after 6 weeks, to close well.
The new seals just will NOT soften up on the driver side.
removed it to verify the door closes well without.
YUP - Door is adjusted great and closes with a gentle push IF the seal is out.

Soo ..What to do ??? I am at a loss. Suggestions people ?? Fudge.

I laid the new seal in the sun for the afternoon hoping the sun breaks it down some.

Next Up . . .

Rear panel.. This WAS the plan.

To slide the top into the chrome section like the front door panel...

Test fit looks ok ... Then - Well ....

Haven't really done interior stuff before, so watched some Youtube.

Then took the ABS panel and started to install the rear carpet from the set.

Spray liberal amounts of 3M 77... wait a bit, then stretch and press it down.
Did the top edge first, then sprayed the rest of the panel.
Pull material down, and press down on carpet to get it attached.
Then I turned it over, and stretched the edges to the backside, adding glue.

This was a sticky and messy job. Sure the pros don't struggle like I did !

THEN discovered, the top was now too thick to fit into the chrome upper trim. DANG IT !
Best laid plans, down the tube. Oh well, remove the stainless top pc.

Will have to attach it somehow at the top now...

Note the XJ cargo lamp I installed in lieu of the headliner Cargo Lamp switch.
I can't reach that anyway... This adds and extra cargo light, and it's a push on/off switch as well.
More importantly, I can actually reach it!

Overall, I think it looks just "OK". Good enough.

Shops want HUGE money to do interior stuff now, and they are backed up. So I will do it myself.

Next Up . . .

Decided to tackle the tailgate carpet.

Same basic routine, spray adhesive, press carpet down.

REALLY struggled with this large pc. Really needed another set of hands.
Just couldn't get it were I wanted it.

In the end, It was close, so flipped it over to do the edges.
It got so messy, I actually glued the spray can to my hand.
Sounds funny, right? Frustrating !

Had to stop, and clean myself up so I could work the material ... pull, push it down. Over and over til it's "OK-ish".
Edges down... pita it was.

Here it is sitting on the tailgate.

found the original corner holes and screwed it down.

Laid out the stainless strips... and made a hardware run to get some stainless screws to attach them.

Couldn't use the original stainless holes, so drilled new ones.
Screwed the strips down. Well, sort of ...
Seems I can't count. I didn't buy enough screws? Oops.
So I did one end, and will finish when I get more screws.

Tailgate strips installed:

Details.. taking forever it seems. Can't wait to tackle the subwoofer covering... lol

Took the column down, almost ready to tackle the dash install.

CU... There is an answer in one of the build threads, It was a specific way to cut it or something like that. It solved his same issue. I'll look for it and share the post.
