Door lock will not work with key

I was testing out the door locks when I discovered that my drivers side door lock doesn't work. I put the key in the lock turn it and it will not unlock or lock the door. It actually feels like the lock is disconnected from the latching mechanism. Is there a detailed schematic of the door lock system or has anyone else encountered this?
