Are you talking about the power steering that was an option in '63 or are you fitting a newer Saginaw box?-Frank

Is your truck basically stock now?
When I converted my '63 to Saginaw style steering, I had cut the front crossmember from a '69 J-truck that had the mounts for the Saginaw box and welded it into my '63 frame after removing the original front crossmember.
The steering column is also different - the original '63 connected directly to the Ross box and the later Saginaw style column is shorter and uses steering shaft between the column and box.
I used a box from a '78 J-20, a column from a late '60's/early '70's Wagoneer and the steering shaft from the '78 J-20. It all bolted together.-Frank

Well I have a 327 chevy stuffed in her and I think if I redo the motor mount I can get the box mounted and make a shaft from my original sreering colum. I just wondering if the pitman arm had to be level or can I get away with a slight angleAFTER 48 YEARS OF CAREFUL FINANCIAL PLANNING EVERYTHING I OWN WILL FIT IN THE BACK OF MY 1963 J200 !!!

if your steering currently looks like that diagram..you have to do what Tonka did to use a later saginaw.
I didn't have to switch columns, just swapped the lower steering shaft.1979 Chero S "Sundog" 1979 Chero S "Hammer"

Yep, that diagram is what was available in the early J-trucks and Waggys for power steering. My '63 panel has that set up.
It sounds like you've got a good idea of how to make what you have work. I'm not sure on your question about the angle of the steering box/pitman arm. Too much of an angle could lead to binding issues under full lock/full stuff situations. Hard to say without seeing it!-Frank

Why not just scrounge up the correct power steering setup?
I've got it all sitting in my tent/shed/thing waiting to get rebuilt and installed in my 63 someday.
Plus no one wants this stuff and it's dirt cheap.Thomas Russell

Steering box should be the same, early ones had different ratios but 64/65 had the same for both power and non power boxes.
Any will work with power assist.Thomas Russell
