    80 Golden Eagle

Hello, ran across 1980 Levi edition with Golden Eagle on the hood only, ower told me thats how they bought it 8 years ago, is there a number on body tag i can look for to see if this is a true 1980 Golden Eagle? the ower keeps telling me there is no diffrent number on body tag for 80 Golden Eagle, he told me that all 1980 Levi Edition could be Golden Eagles if you had dealership install stickers only 77-79 was installed at factory and have number to show its a GE, does anybody know how true this, does anybody know of numbers to look for ect.

Find the build sheet for the vehicle, if you can.
Mine was in the left rear, fastened to the gas filler pipe.
Since there was no Golden Eagle specific paint color, the paint code will not help.

If it's a true GE, the denim seats will be a tan or almond color (assuming there's anything left of them), the interior will be a tan color.

If it's a WT, then the rear windows will be tinted bronze. If it's a J-10, you can only go by the interior. If the only decal is on the hood, I'd almost have to say it's not a true GE, there should be golden stripes along the bottom of the vehicle that say Golden Eagle, and a set of mulit-colored stripes along the top of the main body that come up and wrap around the bird.

Look at my avatar to see what the J-10s look like.

I would not let me talk you into it worth more than any jeep, it is if that is what you are looking for but its still a jeep. I have been down that path before, it will sit there long enough then get sold as a jeep not a GE. Nice to find those options but not worth twice the price.

I should add that the GE "package" didn't add any more than the decals, interior and bronze tinted glass in the WT, and the decals and interior in the J-truck. No other bells and whistles at all.

I'd say Jon is right, basically a debadged GE. Nothing wrong with it, just a few less decals to fade and crack.

What's really important is what shape is it in? Run good, body straight, t/c in good shape (should have a NP219)? If it's in good shape, then go for it.

Has little to no rust, floor /frame are A1, inner whell wells and flars are all rust free with no signs of old patch work, has 78k on engine transmission shifts good, but when i put in four well drive Hi or Lo it jumps out and act like its in neutral

Good catch Jeff, I didn't think about those.

If it's popping out (and since it has 2 hi and 4 hi) then I'm going to guess that it's got a NP208. I'm not fluent in "208", but I'd guess that you've either got a t/c problem or possibly a motor mount problem.

You need to determine if it's the t/c that's jumping to neutral or the transmission that's jumping to neutral. Look the motor mounts over, or have someone watch them while you rev the engine. If the motor mounts are sound, that will narrow down the problem and your options.
