    parking brake unobtainium HELP??

Some P.O. down the line stripped out all the parking brake stuff and I have ran into a piece I cant find anywhere.

Its called "parking brake lever" and should look something like this (google searched image)

Any help w/ a part # or something it would cross with that I could order in would be appreciated. I dont have a junkyard around here w/anything that old any more.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Tried to look it up on oljeep.com. Service info, but no part #.
Somebody pm'd me. Gona see if that pans out. If not, I'll be calling J&W.

Was hoping to find a part # I could order in thru parts store to have it ASAP. Need to get this done before my trip. Leaving June 8th and still much to do.

Just cant believe with all the older vehicles that ran these same brakes, nobody even has that part anymore.

Did find them for a 76 CJ5 w/ 11" brakes. I want to say it would work, but they call for different shoes, so not sure.

Assuming this is the 1981 in your sig, pretty sure the 6-lug axles have Delco brakes. So it's a good chance that a GM part will work.

Did you look at the 1981 and later parts book on OlJeep? It's there. Comes as a lever and strut package, J8124531 and J8124530 R/L resp.

The CJ parts won't work. The first AMC axle CJs used Bendix brakes, and then went to some other 10" brakes when disk fronts became standard. Definitely different from the 6-lug Wagoneer brakes.

PM Tanker if you can't find this part on a GM car. Unfortunately the Jeep PN does not cross to a GM/Delco number AFAIK.

Thanks Tgreese, I missed that when I was looking.
That also pulled alternate part #s J8127787 and J8127788. Unfortunately everything is showing "discontinued".

Acct21.....yep, both sides actually. One in the first pic is just something from the net for reference to what I was talking about.

Yea, that would be too simple.

Thing that is irritating, I have scrapped not one, but TWO of these axles with functional e-brakes in the past. Couldn't give them away, and had nowhere to stash them long term.

            Thanks for the help guys,
            Jim

Realize you will also need the strut that bridges the lever to the opposite shoe. The parking brake is not functional without both pieces.

And as the final kick in the crotch, that pre-tensioning spring that goes on the strut is NOT included in any repair/refurb kit I've ever seen...

Basically going to need all three parts from a yard/scrap rig.

Got the strut, and spring (which is available, but separate).

Got a pair coming. Hopefully by the weekend.

                      Jim,

Sorry to resurrect this post, but I'm wondering where you found that tensioning spring for the balance bar/strut? I'm redoing my J-20's rear brakes, and those springs are present, but pretty ugly.
