The trick is getting the original clear coat off without altering the finish of the aluminum underneath like polishing would.'72 Jeep Wagoneer Custom, 360 V8
I love how arguements end as soon as Ristow comments. Ristow is right...again.

If you want to take them further, we used to use some polish that was a miracle for the fire truck rims(they always had to shine), made by a chemist here in Phoenix in his garage, I think it was called Starbright? but don't quote me on it. I have used it and wow it works with a little elbow grease.

I have always had good luck with Wenol. It can be hard to find but it does wonders on wheels and tread plateBen

I put some more amateur polishing effort into the one wheel. I think it looks great for a 40 year old factory 5 slot. 1 down, 3 more to go.
Here are the tools and products I used. Its what I had and I don't want to end up in a money vacuum buying other materials and what not.
Untouched back side.

Just wanted to share pics of items i've been needing for my 79. I found all of these in the local pick and pull .
Tailgate panel. not perfect. But I didn't have one.
The carpet trim that is installed just in front of the rear bench seat.
A column shift indicator. I found this one in a 79 AMC Eagle 2-door sedan. Can anyone reproduce these? They are difficult to source.
A complete ceiling wire harness with front and rear light assemblies, passenger visor vanity light plug, and a rear cargo light switch. I guess I'll be removing my refurbished ceiling panels to get this installed.
Rear passenger door hinge springs. How do I compress these to install them?
A PERFECT fan shroud!
I spare tire rack. My 79 didn't have one. Now I can carry a spare tire!
And a pic of my road trip from a week ago.
