Choke isnt working on the stock motorcraft 2v...

Im about fed up with this dang thing.

If I turn the cap until it put enough pressure on the choke to close it when I hit the gas, it doesnt open fully even after warming up. In fact it doesnt open at all. The vacuum pull of cracks it like it is supposed to, but thats it.

If I let it high idle for 5 minutes and punch the throttle the "high idle catch" releases and it idles down, but the hot air choke wont open the choke.

I have to loosen the screws and turn the cap about 45* and the choke will then open.

I dont have an electric choke, it is the crappy hot air choke that runs down to the manifold.

    What Am I missing here?

I agree with BW, you should have an electric choke.

You can get a new electric unit from Napa and wire it in via switched ignition power. The average E-Choke should be fully opened within a minute or two tops and should idle down almost instantly with a good thwap on the throttle.

Seems the pull-off is doing it's job, but your heat stove arrangement isn't doing what it's supposed to.

Honestly, I don't recall anything non-electric after 74 at the latest, so I am one of many that would be curious about what you are running there.

      Good Luck!

It has the wire for the electric choke, and the wire is hot because it touched the exhaust and made a few problems in the past.

But has a non-elec hot air style on it now.

I work at a napa, but we cant figure out what "kit" to put on it, because none of out books or computers have any listings like that. It lists hot air style chokes for it though, but none are electric.

If someone can shoot me a napa part number...that would make my week!

It should be a Motorcraft 2150 on there....bust out the book and look in the Ford section.

My dad tried getting a choke cover from Napa for his '89 GW.
          The books/computer were WRONG.

It had a carter 2bbl non electric cover listed.

Maybe the Ford choke cap is the same, maybe not.
I've bought the Sorenson Carb kit for the Ford 2150 and many of the parts are NOT the same as the AMC/Jeep 2150.* Some are, and they happened to be the ones I needed so I went for the cheap kit. But if you are not sure, stick with Jeep spec'd stuff.

You might try looking up the Jeep part number and cross referencing it that way. The colorado chapter had a '84-? parts book on their website. I bet its still there.

*If you search, I posted a pic of the kits contents several years ago.

And yes, adjusting these chokes are a PIA.
