    Hello fellow Americans,

This is not a Democrat or Republican problem, it is an AMERICAN Problem. And I am on my soap box again!

Some sheriffs in Northern California are fed up with the federal agencies, Check out the site below:

Our unduly elected officials are again stealing land from use by the public. They are attempting to expand the existing "Wilderness Areas". FACT: They (the United States Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management) have redrawn the maps showing no roads existing in these areas (which is a requirement for wilderness designation). Sen. Wyden has introduced S 2001 and Rep. DeFazio has introduced H.E.3436 using these falsified maps. There are other requirements that have not been. The Wilderness Act of 1964 required that these lands "shall be surveyed on a planned, recurring basis consistent with the concept of wilderness preservation by the Geological Survey and the Bureau of Mines to determine the mineral values, if any, that may be present; and the results of such surveys shall be made available to the public and submitted to the President and Congress. This could not have happen because the "Bureau of Mines was abolished by Congress. And "(B) hold a public hearing or hearings at a location or locations convenient to the area affected. The hearings shall be announced through such means as the respective Secretaries involved deem appropriate, including notices in the Federal Register and in newspapers of general circulation in the area: Provided, That if the lands involved are located in more than one State, at least one hearing shall be held in each State in which a portion of the land lies". This was not done either. It takes years for USFS/BLM to do anything. No one I can find has ever year of a meeting on this subject.
    PROHIBITION OF CERTAIN USES
    (c) Except as specifically provided for in this Act, and subject to existing private rights, there shall be no commercial enterprise and no permanent road within any wilderness area designated by this Act and, except as necessary to meet minimum requirements for the administration of the area for the purpose of this Act (including measures required in emergencies involving the health and safety of persons within the area), there shall be no temporary road, no use of motor vehicles, motorized equipment or motorboats, no landing of aircraft, no other form of mechanical transport, and no structure or installation within any such area.

    SPECIAL PROVISIONS
Nothing in this Act shall prevent within national forest wilderness areas any activity, including prospecting, for the purpose of gathering information about mineral or other resources, if such activity is carried on in a manner compatible with the preservation of the wilderness environment. Furthermore, in accordance with such program as the Secretary of the Interior shall develop and conduct in consultation with the Secretary of Agriculture, such areas shall be surveyed on a planned, recurring basis consistent with the concept of wilderness preservation by the Geological Survey and the Bureau of Mines to determine the mineral values, if any, that may be present; and the results of such surveys shall be made available to the public and submitted to the President and Congress.

Recently the Sheriffs of Oregon had a convention, the closures of these roads and the locking of gates in the "public domain" are of great concern to these officials. The Sheriffs are the "Chief Law Enforcement Officers"
in the counties and are responsible for the safety for all that are on lands of their county. These closures hamper their search and rescue missions. This now being addressed by the National Sheriffs Association.
