    chrome grille

I have a black muscle grille and want to make it the chrome version. Were the factory chrome muscle grilles painted or did they use a type of chrome laminate? Has anyone else tried this? Thanks

    chrome grill

My truck came with a gray painted one but I did buy a surround and I it came with a chrome muscle grill and head light bezels. They appear to be a chrome laminate. I would not recommend trying to paint yours with a chrome paint. It will not look like the factory finish.

They are a couple of realistic chrome paints on the market but they're a bit pricey. You could find a good chrome grill for what it cost. I hope this helps some.

They are plated plastic, just like the parts in a plastic model vehicle kit, ie. Revell, AMT, Monogram, etc.

No real good inexpensive way to do one on your own.

Interesting. With so many dips and curves and corners on the grill and headlight doors, let us know how it went on and how it appears to hold up when you get it done.

That might look good on one of brielly's fiberglass rhino grilles.

I pieced mine together out of a chrome muscle center section and GW final design headlight trim.

Nice idea, the trim on my drip rails is looking kind of rough...I might have to try that stuff out.

                    Well

Have you looked into the new water based chrome spray. We saw that stuff at the good guys show at Texas motor speedway this year & it was awesome. It looked as good as any laminate I've ever seen. Google & there's tons of options.

The company that was linked above has a video on their home page about their water based chrome. Looked pretty good.

There were two versions of surrounds, there was chrome laminate plastic, and there was polished aluminum. Polished aluminum ones look great when they're cleaned up. As far as I know though, all inserts were plastic. They don't look great for very long, so I opted to paint them gray or black.

There are 2 drip rail trims that is true. One is a steel chrome laminated in plastic. The other is stainless steel. There may be a 3rd aluminum but I've never seen them.

Funny, I tried to wet sand and polish one of the metal ones, and it almost looks like there was some thin plating on the outside. The results were not too good.
I only went up to 1000 grit, really not sure if taking it all the way up to 2000 will be worth the effort.
