The magic smoke they put in at the factory....that's actually what the "S" stands for. Actually, many of the NT in the late 70s also had the chief badges. Even the 4-door cheros had the cherokee S badge. By 83, you either got the Laredo or the base model. No badges= base model. As lobie stated above, there were other subtle differences. Clock, vented rear windows, handle, electric rear window, carpeting, carpeted panels in rear. you could get the laredo with the either V8 or 258/6. I think power windows was an option.
Still, a Forest Service vehicle is sweet! Tried and tested. got pics? is is yellow and green? Tan and Brown? I'm waiting to see this thing. Much cooler than a regular chief.Last edited by CheapJeepBrad; 02-25-2013, 06:26 PM.FSJs Owned/sold

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Chiefs were 2-door wide tracs that said "Cherokee Chief" on the side in big huge letters. If it didn't have the letters it's not a Chief. The Indian stripes are for the "S" model available on pretty much any Cherokee of the era.Yep, I know my PM box is full. Email me instead.
