    Interesting...

So noticed the requirements of my '90 has changed for smog testing.

It used to require STAR certification testing, it no longer does.
Guess since it tests so clean now, they changed it.
This is good, because a STAR certified station/test increases the chances of being failed.

This also means I can take it to cheapy smog shops, and the test doesn't cost as much.

Yet another good reason to convert an SJ in California.

That would be nice. I had to smog mine last month at a star certified shop. It's such a hassle because you have to educate the technician on these older cars.

Tony, do you have a waiver or something from a referee regarding your EFI? Normally such changes would not be allowed without some special dispensation from the CARB. Are you running an AMC engine or a Chevy with native fuel injection?

Nope, standard GM TBI on the AMC 360.
Stealth timing control hidden inside old Duraspark module.

Last tested in Feb., CARB website shows STAR certification NOT required anymore for it.

Which like I said is interesting, because it was required in Feb., when I tested it last.

What is also interesting is it was a Federal 49-state vehicle when testing in 2015. Now it is showing as CA certified.

Yep. Debating selling it, and that requires me to smog it for buyer.
Was grabbing screenshot of smog test history, and noticed the change.

I?m also debating stealing the egr performer & thorley headers from my ?88.
Dunno if they?d add value if I do decide to sell it.

I thought all 25 years old and older needed STAR certified. When my Geo turned 25 it had to be STAR tested every check thereafter. Whats frustrating to me is there are no clear cut rules for STAR testing. All the DMV says is:

State law requires that a percentage of vehicles have their Smog Checks performed at a STAR station. One reason may be that your vehicle was identified as being more likely than others to emit unhealthy levels of harmful pollutants. This may be true even though your vehicle may never have failed a Smog Check. Another possibility is that your vehicle was chosen as part of a random selection for Smog Check Program evaluation purposes.

Funny that NONE of my cars I have owned that are newer than 25 years old have ever been required to be STAR'ed. yet it's a "percentage". Sure it is.

                From the same DMV webpage:
Is the Smog Check Program biased against older vehicles?
No. While California law requires the Smog Check Program to focus on high-polluting vehicles, the Smog Check Program also does not require older vehicles to meet the same emissions standards as newer vehicles. Smog Check emissions standards take into consideration the age, make and model of each vehicle, so that a vehicle is never held to a standard that applied when the vehicle was originally manufactured.

                Sure it's not.

Well in 2015 it was 25, and needed STAR testing.
Now in 2017 it?s 27, and does NOT???

My ?94 Caprice was STAR and it wasn?t 25yrs old.

So yeah doesn?t make sense to me.
