    Help with dash planning

Im trying to do this the smart way and plan ahead. i plan on making a custom gauge panel to replace the stock speedo and guages. i want to place this garmin
as the center piece and then small guages on the sides. the reason is i think it is cool and will tell me speed and trip info plus if i change tire size i wont have to worry about the speedo being off. my question is when i add the cruise control will it work without an active speedo? Thanks for the help. this site has really given me some great ideas and reminded me that i can custom make things cheap and dont need mad money to make my ride nice.

If you eliminate the speedo cable, then the cruise won't work. Have you figured out how you're gonna add a Vehicle Speed Sensor? If that isn't gonna interfere with the speedo gear, you could run the cable straight to the CC.

Sounds like a neat idea... Post up some pictures of your progress.

Also, post the year of your rig when you ask questions, it will help people know what situations you will run into as so much changed over the years with gauges/electrical etc.

Another possibility for a GPS speedo is to use one for a boat application. It looks like most manufacturers that make marine gauges have some that are GPS driven. You have to add a seperate receiver for them, but that is easily hidden behind the dash. Obviously not a full function GPS unit, so you don't have all of the trip features, but just an idea. Something to keep you from having to recalibrate.
