    Restomod

    Hi,

a acquaintance from me has a 1979 chief and will built a fine restomod.
He asked me if i can help . Ok, i will ask for him.
He want the the body fine restored and put it on a modern frame and drivetrain.
Coil springs, good disc brakes, modern transmission and a 500hp or more V8.

to make a long story short: He want made his chief like a vigilante 4x4 jeep, but for less the money and in germany with TUEV.
He knows the prices from vigilante and heritagejeep, so dont ask for the budget.

    What is possible? Any references?
    Thanks in advance!

Sorry but, I am not exactly sure what your questions are.
Ghinmi has built a similar vehicle to what you describe:
Rather than posting random updates every now and again I figured I'd just start a build thread for the new Cherokee project. Basically it's a 1983 Cherokee WT body on a shortened 1971 C10 frame with a real healthy AMC 401. Here's how I picture it as a finished project, although I change my mind on the paint scheme almost daily

I've been thinking about a new chassis and drive train for my short wheelbase J10, but the objective for me is a lowered suspension for a 4WD hot rod/AMG/BMW X6 street vehicle modification. As you now this is virtually impossible to achieve with the original Jeep suspension. The Vigilante chassis is very interesting, but it's still straight axles at the front and rear.

I don't know a thing about the 392 Wrangler Rubicon chassis other than the wheel base is almost the same as my J10. So it might be a reasonable starting point for a body swap. However, if that suspension is also straight front axle and cannot be modified (lowered), then I would look toward one of the Dodge Ram or upcoming compact Dakota sport truck offerings. Or maybe Ford or Chevy sport trucks. Doubtful that any unibody chassis including the SRT Cherokee would be suitable to graft on to an old Jeep body.

Two wheel drive has many more possibilities in terms of a body on frame construction. An older Ford Lightning or Dodge V10 SRT come to mind. Here's a hot rodded IFS two wheel drive that sold recently. But it's certainly not in a class with the 4wd Euro cars. Let us know if you come up with anything.

Bid for the chance to own a Modified 1966 Jeep Wagoneer 5-Speed at auction with Bring a Trailer, the home of the best vintage and classic cars online. Lot #45,926.
