Miriam Webster defines "Hybid" as:
...something (such as a power plant, vehicle, or electronic circuit) that has two different types of components performing essentially the same function
Almost EVERY vehicle labeled as "Hybrid" is a vehicle that has both a fossil fuel propulsor and an electric propulsor.
In the '79 Jeep Field Service Manual, the starter circuit diagram shows the neutral safety switch is jumpered in the manual transmission versions. I assume this means I can put a manual equipped FSJ in gear and move it with the starter motor.
Does this mean that FSJs with a manual transmission are hybrids? Since it would drain the battery pretty fast, we would have to charge the battery ALOT; that means it's a plug-in Hybrid (though it doesn't have very good range). I didn't realize Jeeps were so ahead of their time! If I had a stick in my Cherokee, I would put a "Hybrid" logo on the tailgate....
