    hi temp powdercoating tape ???

Ok i am trying to learn powdercoating... the high temp poly powdercoating tape available cant be left on the part while its in the oven? why not use regular painters masking tape?

The reason I ask is I assumed i could leave it on, I powdercoated a metal tray grey, let it cool and masked out a pattern i powdercoated that black and put it back in the oven, the poly tape curled up and shrank..

whats the point of hi temp tape sold on eastwood and other sites

    thanks for the education

Might try masking out your pattern, shoot the second color and pull the masking. Don't know if you'll keep a sharp line in the powder, or if it will soften when baked.

I would think that most tape adhesive will fail, at most, 200*

I'm no expert with powder coating ,but both is not possible , all kinds of tape are going to let loose and shrink.
And different colours next to each other are melted together when baking.

Powder coating is a perfect solution but the options are not endless.

Maybe it's a option to do the first colour in powder coat and shoot the second one with a paint spray gun.

The other question is how well will the powder adhere to an already baked layer....will the electrical charge be good enough through that first layer
Just looked at Eastwood site and it says their poly and fiberglass tape good to 500*

cant seem to find a definitive answer on leaving the east wood tape on, the you tube videos dont show parts with tape on them while baking.......

anyway i also saw some video's where the little deflector appears to have been removed? why?
