My dad sent me this picture the other night, he lengthened the gauge cluster since we decided it would look better and be the better move in the long run to go with all aftermarket gauges.

Anyone have any suggestions for cheap reliable gauges? Looking at autometer now, but would like to be a bit cheaper...

Thanks Resbum, I just spent two hours on that website and cant find a cheaper set than Autometer Z series; price is very similar to summit, amazon...etc.

The only issue i have is that the Z series only comes with a mechanical speedo, so i will have to research retrofitting the t-case to accept a mechanical unit (or mix and match gauges with the Sport Comp). I will also need to try adapting the stock crank sensor to work with the autometer tach (i think it just needs a pullup circuit).

This is their specialty. They helped me with my truck.

Mark is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and honest. When he couldn't get me the best price he had no issue giving me the names of other businesses that could get me something cheaper. He also has contacts all over the US. Their family has been in the business for decades.

          • I mentioned in another thread that '91 Wranglers came with a combo VSS that has the speedo cable drive and a plug for computer controller
Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental.

Thanks for the heads up guys, I see going from an electric to a mechanical gauge as a step down...I did all the research i could and have it down to two styles and will know which is the one very soon.

BTW...Im moving over to FSJnetwork due to the questionability of this sites health. Ill try to keep an eye on this site, but dont want to have a replay of a couple weeks ago. Hopefully ill see you guys over there!

Looking forward to seeing more work. You are essentially doing what I am, with more work due to swapping dodge frames among each other. Looks good!

Thanks, its been a long project, made longer by other interruptions, but its getting to the good part!! (unless I need to tear something down that I inadvertently screwed up). Good luck on your swap, ill be keeping an eye out, definitely a clean, solid starting point!

Heres some picture updates, ill be installing the wiring harness this weekend, I just need to pressure test the fuel tank and then I can start running fuel lines. My dad thinks he'll be able to get the doors painted white by Saturday, then the hood and bed are all that's left.

One more installment to somewhat cap off this build, except for some small things:

                    Interior partially complete.

Boost lines from turbo to water-to-air intercooler, and then to intake.

Exterior is complete, rear bumper will be mounted this weekend, looking for a set of 37" tires.

Thank you! testing like...? it depends on that definition...

(not sure how well it will post here)

Ive had it running for several hours now, maybe ~40-50 miles now (no speedo yet). with the merc mark VIII fan on low and c4 vette radiator it will idle all day long in traffic, its idled over a half hr (almost straight). I drive it with the fan off unless I make it thru 2 ~5min red light rotations, I cruise and it idles w/ the fan on at 172deg, never seen it at 190 like it should be.

I have not tested it at hwy speeds, that's what this weekend is for, if all goes well, I bring it up north 2hrs to where I live and put it in daily driving rotation.

honestly its not bad at all, the turbo whistle at highway speeds though is pretty deafening, ill be working on that in the coming weeks hopefully...
