End of a long chapter/bad day.

So yesterday was a bad day...

Driving my 9yr old to an appt., some idiot turned right in front of me.
Breaking/Avoidance didn't work just not enough time to react.
100% his fault, guy didn't even have a DL.
He also was not on the vehicle owners policy.
No idea on insurance yet, but I am likely screwed there??

    Pretty bummed out.

Definitely a bad day. My sympathies Tony.

This is the risk we run when we drive these Jeeps. Sometimes you cannot control the situation.

Did he live with the owner? If not the fact that he wasn't on the policy shouldn't matter. I can loan my car to someone and it's covered. If he lived with the owner he probably had to be named.

Idunno about his not being licensed. They are still responsible. Whether you can get anything out of them is obviously the question.

I don't suppose your insurance will cover it. Do you have uninsured motorist?

            Thx all...

            Yes, I have uninsured coverage.
However, after calling in the claim today it isn't sounding good.
We shall see what happens playing the insurance game.

sorry about your ordeal, uninsured motorists is a pain, so are the insurance companies because there are more likely to undervalue our rigs... the value of our rigs is what a similar vehicle sells locally , ebay is a good source for references. I went thru the same fight 2 years ago, but mine was a fender bender

be ready for a fight with the insurance company, and fight them till the end. They under value these vehicles. Be prepared to search locally and internet and submit comparable vehicles if they don't offer you a fair price.

Last vehicle I totaled they wanted to fix. I paid 11,500 out the door for a brand new ranger in '06 (with my employee discount), did 13,500 worth of damage before it had 6k miles on it, not including a ripped seat and the bumper cover (factory STX) costing 800 more than the shop quoted, and they wanted to fix it. it took about a week of back and forth, but we finally worked it out. Remember they are in it to save as much as they can, you are in it to get as much as you can.

yes I am well aware of insurance claim nonsense.
part of problem is I only had minimum coverage since my wag was never worth much until recent years.
owning it for 14yrs saved lots insurance $ but that saving now comes @ higher cost. My fault for not having better coverage on it.

Will just have to wait and see what nonsense the ins. co comes up with.
Since the other driver was unlicensed and using someone else's car probably has no $. Court would likely just result in a judgement I'd never see.

I seriously doubt they will pay enough to have it fixed by a body shop.
Insurance companies don't even pay realistic labor rates her in socal.

Seems to me the vehicle owner has a lot of liability here. He let the other clown drive his car.

Prolly a deadbeat too though, right?

Might be worth getting a lawyer involved at some point.

just have to wait and see what happens?
talked to ins. co today and they now have a claim filed from them(wasn't one yesterday).

my damage is surprising...looked & found more yesterday.
                            R hood hinge bent bad
                            R side cowl is tweaked
RF door is pushed back(used close perfectly)
visible movement on tub body mounts
small gap between windshield gasket/roof corner

obvious stuff noticed day of accident
R spring bent @ rear hanger, and front one looks bent
                            hood/core support/fenders/valance/grille/bumper obviously toast

who knows how front axle/steering faired?
Looking @ how things line up/gap changes etc. I think the frame probably needs a pull too?

That really sucks! Hate to hear about your loss. And it will be your loss if you don't stand up for your rights. I once went thru this with MY insurance company. I loaned a friend my truck and he went a half a mile and rolled it over. MY ins. company told me they only insured this vehicle for XX amount even after I had done all these upgrades. I completely stripped it down to what THEY said it was worth. I took about $2500.00 worth of stuff off of it and gave it to them. They contacted me afterwards and wanted to know where all the stuff was. I told them to pay me for it and they could have it. Never heard another word from them.

You are going to have to be your own advocate. Most attorneys won't take a case unless you are injured. and there is money to be had.

Sorry you have to go thru this. I don't have many body parts, a 82 complete front end and frame, but if you keep it and need parts, they are yours.
