What would you call this part...and where to get replacement?

The best I can say is I think this would be called a gear shift bushing?

There are two of these bushings that attach up off the transmission that have some play in them and is causing the gear shift to not engage in park all the time which in turn the truck wont crank.

Any idea where to get a couple of these and what the official part name is?

Try your local parts chainstore(walk-in). Most will have a HELP section with odd parts. It'll include assorted nylon bushings for trans linkage etc. Likely won't find the metal housing part of yours but prolly the nylon bushing part.

I tried that same part from Team Grand Wagoneer and the rod won't fit through the brass bushing.

I guess it is possible the rod is not factory and has been replaced at some point with one slightly larger.

You can get an entire kit to replace every bushing in this linkage:

The grommet alone is Chrysler Part # J5352589 (other numbers cross-listed include # 52078134, 04713851, 53003355, 53005094, 53008529); you will also see it listed as a part #M463GC "grommet":

But I don't know if that place will sell you one, or only a thousand.

Thanks for the part numbers. I see what I can find.

That kit from BJ's is the same as the one I bought from team grand Wagoneer which didn't fit.

The brass insert is just too small.

dorman help has plastic/nylon bushings similar to original.
comes in a set with various sizes so have to buy 2.
find a local parts store that has a good selection?
or someone may have posted part number if search using google/bing

i also recall a thread from many years ago someone used something they found @ lowes or home depot.
another search may dig it up?

              edit: from tech archives
Since I've owned my jeep I've had problems with loose shift linkage. The shift indicator was more a less a suggestion. So I crawled under today and found some pretty sorry busted up bushings on each end of the bell crank shaft. I had heard you could get these in the Help section at the big parts stores, but I didn't have any

Thanks, I'm going to try the nylon spacers from lowes mentioned in the thread you linked to.
