    stock alternator plug-help

This should be so simple.. Guys I have a stock-style alternator on my 83 j truck (360), the plug has 2 wires in in; red and a darker color. I can insert it either way because the plug itself is so worm out..
Does the red wire go up or the dark one?

The back of the alt has been rebuilt so many times, I cant make out the marking, looks like a "P" and a "t"?

If you look closely the connector is "keyed" meaning there is/was a small block on one side and a matching cutout on alternator case.

Generally marked 1 & 2 on case, 1 is smaller wire 2 is fatter wire.

Ok , I see (very little) of whats left of a clip on one side of the plug, and then there is a notch on the alt housing. That's the way I'm putting it in. Whats the worst that could happen? right!
      Stay tuned

Auto parts stores have replacement pigtails cheap.

You can solder in, or just steal plastic plug if your terminals are ok.
It comes apart pretty easily, just a little tang to release the wire connector ends.
If just loose, can use a small needle nose to tighten them up a touch.
Cleaning them obviously a given if you are swapping the plug.
