Hey Kaiser, I looked around a bit but did not see any info on what and where you found the black tail light rubber material. Thanks in advance!

You mean the edge trim around the light right? I have a lot of clean up in the shop today. I will look through a tall stack of receipts and see if I can find where I got it from.

Did a search on ebay purchases and found it. I bought 10 feet. You will have to pie cut corners on the inside rubber flange to make the corners neat.

Whoo Hoo! After a several hour long power outage today, I got the internet back up to find a message from the water jet guy Dan that the door panel patterns are done. I will hopefully be able to drive to Spokane Thursday to get them. This is getting interesting!

What a great group you guys are. I have read every message to Liz and it has helped. The PM's and responses are really super. I thank each of you very much. She is finally getting some time on her feet. I think so she can better tell me what to do...

I worked on the oven lid all day yesterday. Dang me stainless is hard to work with. But the lid is now insulated and riveted on. The lid shuts better than when I bought the box. It makes all the latches with a one finger push. It is really nice. All I have left is to weld up the stainless rack for the inside. Everything is cut and cleaned up ready for welding. I am going to the next town over this morning to pick up a 4x4 sheet of 1/4 steel. It is for the stamps and will serve as a backing providing rigidity. I also got on the phone with 3M tech yesterday to discuss which epoxy would work best for the temperatures I will be seeing. I got it figured out and have it on the way. 3M is an outstanding company. I pick up all the water jetted pieces tomorrow down in Spokane. All I have left to build is a press stand with a very smooth and flat surface. It is all coming together.
I am having some size issues with the replacement camera. But I will try to get some shots up soon.
Have a good day today. Thank you.

The door panel stamp oven is done. It works surprisingly well. It took 8 minutes to heat to 250. I turned it down and it held the temp right there. So that means I am not driving the 220 AC hot plate to hard. Plus I insulated the heck out of the truck box. I did not feel any excess heat escaping around the lid anywhere. This crazy idea just might work...

If not I can start a food truck business....

The lid that took a while to get fitted. It slips inside the liner perfectly.
The candy cooking thermometer is poking down in the center.

I put some breather vent holes in the heating elements baffle plate. It makes good distribution of heat.
The grill is stainless also. 20 feet of rod there.

The thermometer. I will verify it with a digital temp gun while being used.

I pick up the patterns tomorrow. I picked up the 1/4 plate today. Dang me it was heavy. I still need to build a press stand. I have it figured out. I just need to get to cutting and welding. That is the last fixture I need.
I will post a pic of the patterns. The epoxy showed up today. Geez I ordered it only yesterday mid day after talking with 3M tech. It was here from Seattle by noon. Sweet!
Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Got the door panel metal today. Aside from a little surface rust from the water jet they look great. I will soak them in must for rust and get them clean and protected. I have patterns for X model panels and the base model panels.
                  I am getting closer.

I have the surrounding metal they cut the patterns from. That will make aligning everything a snap when it comes to epoxying them down to the base metal.

My old camera is making everything purple again. These rectangles are all the base model lower sections. The ones Sadie has.

                  Looking forward to moving ahead...

Dave you crack me up. Trust me I would not survive politics...
Sorry about the delays in posting. Between the second clutch and trans pull, family visiting, Liz asking me to move lots of stuff and her out of town appointments, Mowing grass that won't quit growing, trying to build a fire suppression system and clearing out trees in the yard, (only three days of rain this spring!) putting our 6 cords of firewood up,and a half dozen other must do things, I am neglecting Sadie. I discovered it makes me cranky to not work on Sadie on a regular basis. But all this stuff has to be done. I was showing one of my visiting aunts the oven and stamps yesterday. She thought it was cool. I will be back on it this weekend. I need to do an acid soak on the stamps. Plasma cut the backing plates, glue it all together etc. It is hot and super dry already. I worry to much.
Liz is healing up. Today is her first day driving. Last test came in a couple days ago. NO CANCER! I/we are beyond grateful.

I am trying to keep moving ahead but it is slow going. The pictures I have are boring and contrary to popular belief, I am still slow to produce. I guess that depends on how you look at it. I have done three clutches (two on my dern CJ after putting in the wrong disc ) and rebuilt a 5 speed. I also just found out the jeeping vacation I was totally scrambling for got canceled. Double and because my wife over did it I am now cooking and doing laundry. NO I won't show any of you my apron.... She will be fine, she just over did it. I am also tending to her garden (It's almost embarrassing. )
while she lays on the couch telling me what to do next.
I thought she might need some bon bons to nibble on...

So I acid soaked the stamps in must for rust. Just a reminder to keep all zinc plated stuff away from MFR. It fumes and etches it. The plastic had holes and it "altered" my new drip pan and gassed me out. I had to open doors for some fresh air and let in a slew of hungry mosquitoes.

All the rust came off. So those are done waiting for a quick sand before epoxy.

I had to make a reservoir out of a new plastic trash bag and a bunch of metal to hold in the chemical.

After plasma cutting out the 8 pieces of 1/4 plate for the backing plates, I had to grind and clean up 185 miles of ragged edge on each plate.
Got that done and now I am realizing I need to remove the mill scale from the plate to get a good bond. I have a lot invested and cutting corners is not in the cards so far. I tried sanding, flap disc's and bead blasting. Bead blasting works the best but it took absolutely forever to do what you see below. That is a small plate and I have eight pieces to do. I got online and confirmed what I suspected. Muratic acid will take it off. I have used it before and it is fun and dangerous, and effective. So I just got back from town with two gallons. I will have to wait till it quits raining. Water and muratic acid get violent when mixed wrong. We have been having thunder and lightning with drenching down pours. Can't do this outside till it goes somewhere else. Starting tomorrow it will be clear and warm.
Anyway, the cleaned up backing plates. Not sure why it is blurry. I'm to tired to run out for a better pic...

After a partial bead blasting for a really long time. Mill scale is tough as nails. Better living through chemicals. As soon as they are soaked and neutralized and clean, I can epoxy everything. I mean after I tack weld 2 inch angle on the back for something to grab on to. I need 16 short pieces welded on. That will only take me about 5 minutes... Some of the long plates are not flat either. So some press time is in order with a level straight edge. Almost there...

I warned the pictures were boring. More soon, I swear by it.

I am stopping any more work on the stamps till I have an issue worked out. After a long discussion yesterday with a friend regarding the use of mild steel for the base plates, we mutually decided I will be facing warping issues with repeated heat and cooling cycles given the length of the parts. This will ruin my quality in the long term and waste my expense. I have been on the phone with metal specialists all day so far and have identified a thermally stable metal called toolox. I am trying to see what it would entail to get some. This is why you never try to hurry this type of project.
I almost overlooked this warping issue. It would have screwed me in the long term.
I will try to get somewhere with the door sill plates. Or anything else for that matter. Just an update for Bill since I know he checks this every day.
