E-Brake/ Parking pedal assembly for 1973 Pickup

Question for the experts - I have a 1973 J2500 Pickup and my E-brake assembly is wore out and will not hold pedal tension. It has the lift up release handle and not the modern pull to release sytle handle. Will the newer style pedal or some other E-Brake pedal assembly bolt up to my truck without modification? Two (2) bolts on firewall and two (2) bolts into dash frame. Has anyone replaced the 1973 and older style E-Brake assembly with a newer style. What fits? Thanks in advance!

Well, I have never swapped parts but I could check the mounting pattern against each type to see if there is a noticeable difference.

These pedals were very unreliable in the early '70s Jeeps, and they went through several revisions. I handled a lot of bad ones as warranty parts. Often they would bend, and this moves the ratchet sideways from the pedal teeth. Sometimes they can be straightened and work again.

JMO - look for a later pedal that you can make work. You might find a replacement in a junkyard FSJ, or in the parts listings here or at fsjnetwork. The Wrangler used a pedal of that type, and you may be able to adapt it. There are lots of listings for used Wrangler pedals, with good pictures. Not cheap though. If you can weld, you can modify the mounting bolt locations so the newer pedal will fit in place of the older.

Replace it for some kind of pull parking brake lever!
They are way more reliable than the foot pedal park brake.
