Anyone running another brand bed?

I'm looking at a J20 that needs a bed. It's got nothing on it now and I need SOMETHING on the back to move stuff around with. This truck will be a plow truck/beater, so I'm currently on the search for either a cheap flatbed or a J-series 8' bed. If a search turns up neither soon or cheap, I was wondering if anyone has ever used any other brand bed instead. I know this is sacrilege and I would be correcting it as soon as I could fine a Jeep bed, but as I say, I need SOMETHING on there. If I can find a different make bed for cheap and can get it to work for now, I'm thinking of going that route.

So, anyone ever use anything else?

Just flat bed it until you find a nice J truck bed.

I'd be happy if I could find any J truck bed.

There was a truck on here a while back with a M100 or M101 trailer bed as a replacement bed. Looks generic enough to fit with the J-truck cab.

Another possibility is a stepside bed from another brand, without the fenders. Then build a pair of Utility-truck style fenders to go with the bed. Maybe extend some trailer fenders?

Or, a service body could likely be made to fit.

Beds from other trucks always look hinky somehow, especially when the body sides don't match.

Look up FSJCraze here on the board. He had an 8' bed for sale a while ago. I looked at it and it was in very good condition. Price was very reasonable. Not sure if he sold it yet or not.

E-mail me at mafsjc@gmail.com and I'll give you his contact info.

What about an earlier J2000 bed? Will this fit a later (87) J20? I might have found someone parting out a J2000, so...

Different wheelbase as I recall, so the wheel wells won't line up with the axle.

I put a J20 be on an '71 J4000 - both were 8' bed's and it fit fine.
The brackets all didn't match 100%, but nothing major IIRC.

only pic I have
