what rear bumper do I have ?

was told by body shop my original 1976 j10 bumper was not useable.

so I started looking for a replacement

ran across a white NOS bumper on ebay
listed as for a j-10, it looked like a j10 bumper
( like the one that came on my 76 )

I jumped on it too quick

got it in,....and it is way too short

looks like a 76 rear bumper
    but too narrow
it is only as wide as the tailgate
and j10 bumpers go around the end of bed sides.

did they shorten bumpers in 79 ?
or is this for a CJ or something

don't know how to post photos

just grabbing at straws, I can email a pic if someone wants to try and identify.

    thanx

You might got one for a stepside truck or a Comanche pickup.

Here are pics of Dave's mystery bumper. It is pretty cool! Someone can ID this....

Here is Dave's truck, with his bumper for comparison. And some SUPER well picked out bumper stickers.

I can't understand why the bumper in the last pic isn't usable?
It looks like a perfect candidate for sandblast, weld and grind on the end caps then re-finish.

The one in the first pic looks like someone cut the front portions of the end caps off and it's missing the license plate light holes.

I agree with all you said.

but in person the original bumper is tweaked

the right Side is pointed downward.

they said they tried to fix it and gave up
after heating and trying to tweak back into correct shape.

I wonder if the"NOS" bumper I have is meant to have the black end caps placed over them ?

I think one member is correct
in thinking it is for a step side.

            thanx for your reply.

Looks like the seller is going to refund 199.00 of the purchase price

so I have a bumper for sale,... 1have 250.00 in it after refund
              so 250.00 plus shipping
if anyone needs one for a step side
which is what it seems to be for.

guess I need to look for a part number on it somewhere.

The person attempting the repair is lacking knowledge or equipment or both.

Repairs like this are often easier than you think with some degree of insight. Take it to someone capable of making special pry tools and/or hydraulic jack attachments.
