aluminum 2bbl vs. cast 2 bbl on my 4.0 swap

I am having a difficult time finding a complete aluminum 2bbl off of a 258 for my 4.0 swap. The ones I have found are missing the throttle bracket. I was wondering what the differences are between the cast iron intake and the newer aluminum intake? Is there any reason I couldnt make a block off plate for the bottom of my cast intake and use it? Any info would be great guys.

The iron intake manifold does not need to be blocked off. Only the exhaust manifold is open to the outside surface of the intake. No reason you can't use the iron manifold, except for potential interference with the 4.0L exhaust manifold, and the aluminum manifold is likely smoother than the iron one, and there will be no provision for heating the iron manifold without its matching exhaust.

I'd keep looking. I found my manifold and linkage separately. Linkage from any post-80 258 should work - I picked mine from a Wrangler in a junkyard. No idea what year it was. $15 IIRC.

The older style is like a 1.5" mounting boss, the newer is like .5"
(This is where the bolts hold the manifolds to the heads)
So....don't think you could use old+new @ the same time.

I had to buy a new set of shorter bolts when I switched to the newer 80's style.

We used a Lokar adjustable throttle cable kit, and it works very well.
Got rid of all that funky throttle linkage junk.

since i have an auto th400 could i still use the lokar throttle cable kit? I kinda like the idea of it cause im gonna run a mc2100 and its a rear pull carb so there bracket would work perfect but i dont know about the power brake booster clearance and the kickdown but i thought the kickdown switch was inside the cab above the pedal?

Yes, it would work fine. TH400 has a kickdown switch on the gas pedal.

I can take some pics if you want to see it (Lokar) installed on my dad's '79.

Using a MC2100 and newer manifolds.

Also ran across this on fleaBay...

I have never seen a '79 without power brakes & power steering.
